One step closer to restoring safe drinking water in southern Ukraine 💧🤝
After the destruction of the Kakhovka dam, access to clean water disappeared from daily life for many communities in southern Ukraine.
Wayout and the Government of Ukraine have now signed an agreement for the first decentralized water system – part of a larger plan covering 40 systems in total.
Together, these systems could provide up to 400,000 people in the Kherson region with clean, locally produced drinking water – supporting urgent needs today and helping communities rebuild for the future.
In Velyka Oleksandrivka, where the first system will be installed, one resident shared:
“After the dam was destroyed, clean water disappeared from our daily lives… Knowing that we will soon have safe water produced here in our own community gives us hope and a sense of dignity again.”
“The Kherson region has suffered enormous damage to its water infrastructure. Restoring centralized systems will take years. Decentralized solutions like the Wayout systems allow us to protect civilians now, reduce health risks, and rebuild resilience at the community level,” says Oleksandr Prokudin, the Governor of the Kherson region.
By producing water close to where people live, the solution reduces reliance on damaged infrastructure, long transport routes, and bottled water – while avoiding chemicals and lowering environmental impact.
This means a more sustainable way to secure water access – both during times of war and as communities recover.
