How does Dry Mode actually work? 💧

Your aircon naturally removes moisture when humid air passes over its cold cooling coil and condenses into water. Dry Mode optimises this process by typically lowering the fan speed, giving the air more contact time with the coil.

The compressor may also reduce its output or cycle intermittently, keeping the coil cold enough to remove moisture while limiting temperature reduction.

The result: lower humidity without making the room excessively cold.

It’s tempting to choose a bigger aircon, more power sounds like faster cooling and better performance.

An oversized aircon may reach the set temperature too quickly and repeatedly stop and restart. This “short cycling” can:

- Reduce dehumidification time.
- Create larger temperature fluctuations.
- Use more energy during repeated starts.
- Place additional stress on the compressor and electrical components.
- Potentially shorten the system’s lifespan.

Modern inverter systems may reduce this problem by lowering their output instead of switching off completely. However, if the unit is so oversized that even its minimum output exceeds the room’s cooling needs, short cycling and poor humidity control can still occur.
