NUS M.Arch Y4 Final Review AY24/25 - Studio JW "Islands Within Islands"

A semester rich with meaningful conversations concludes at Moonstone Lane Estate, an unpolished mixed-use gem cleaved apart from wider urban connections by expressways and the Kallang River.

The Studio began with a series of lectures on international urban planning, and rigorous on-the-ground site investigations via public surveys and technical analysis. Students then proposed masterplans of varying time scales and development impacts, before honing in on pertinent social and technical issues with individual architectural proposals as diverse as a multi-faith religious hub, a mixed-use development designed around the acceptance of floodwater, and social housing for marginalised communities.

NUS M.Arch Y4 Final Review - Oculi at Studio JW

Celebration of one beautiful semester. At an impossible highway interchange site, students took on meaningful programmes under the studio umbrella of "development for public good" - Co-located eldercare + childcare, autism spectrum community, cycling lifestyle hub, migrant worker forum, petcare centre, and local goods market.

Grateful to have had the opportunity to guide our next generation of architects. Special thanks to the students for their boundless energy, and guest reviewers Ronald Lim, Yanling Lin, Genevieve Shaun Lin and Clement Teh for their time and insights.

NUS M.Arch Y4 Interim Review - Studio John Wan

A rewarding and fruitful day at Interim Review. The Studio examines the role of the State as developer for public good. Students reviewed social undercurrents leading to State-developed building typologies from the 1970s until the present day, before conducting individual research on future-ready architectural typologies centered around our incredibly challenging highway interchange site at Marine Parade.

Lending its shifting facade of masses towards a prominent street corner, the Pentagon House is an intersecting series of cuboids rotating around a five-sided courtyard that orientates the programme.
