Growing the profession is just as important as growing our practice.
At Archtur, we’ve always believed that architecture extends far beyond the projects we deliver. It is equally about nurturing people, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a stronger, more connected professional community.
We were honoured to represent Singapore Institute of Architects and Young Architects League to take part in this year's 4 Nations Live Design Discourse held at Kuala Terengganu, contributing alongside Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand architects & students from PAM, IAI and ASA.
While we were privileged to share our experiences as a young practice in Singapore, what made the greatest impact on us was everything we learnt in return.
Throughout the programme, we exchanged ideas with talented architects from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, explored different perspectives on design and practice, and forged friendships that transcended geographical boundaries. Every conversation reinforced an important reminder—that the challenges facing our profession may differ across countries, but our aspirations for better cities, stronger communities, and a more resilient built environment are remarkably similar.
Beyond the formal programme, it was the moments between sessions that made the experience truly memorable. The generosity of the organising committee, the camaraderie among participants, the spontaneous conversations over meals, the late-night project discussions, and the friendships formed along the way reminded us that meaningful collaboration is built on genuine human connections.
As a practice, we remain grateful for opportunities like these that allow us to both contribute and continue learning. They strengthen our conviction that the future of architecture will not be shaped by individual firms working in isolation, but by professionals who are willing to share openly, collaborate generously, and collectively elevate our industry.
Our sincere appreciation goes to the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), the Young Architects League (YAL), the organising committee (PAM), our fellow mentors, and every student participant who made this journey so meaningful.
The programme may have concluded, but the relationships built, perspectives gained, and inspiration drawn from this experience will undoubtedly continue to influence the way we practise architecture for years to come.
