One week on… A tribute to Mr William Lim.
As a student I couldn’t understand much of what he said, but I could vividly recall his hairstyle, which resembled the man with similar hairdo on the ‘Hacks’ cough candy wrapper.
Years later, he was very much a part of the conversations at TANGGUANBEE, the studio of my formative years. He was instrumental in galvanising the hearts and minds of fellow architects who shared similar thoughts and probably ideals. Through AAAsia, I assimilated into the ‘other’ realm of architectural practice, and met some of the most influential and foremost architects in our region.
As a young practitioner setting on my own, he offered words of encouragements and inspirations, as well as pointers for critical thinking.
As unique as his hairstyle, Willie will always be remembered as a modernist pioneer with unique, thought-provocative stance on architectural practice and philosophies.
Above all, I will always respect Willie as a fighter, who was constantly charting new frontiers - exemplified by his words and also his body of works.
