Back in 2016, one of our DMP Grantees proposed a hypothetical modular design for a recycling sorting and maker space in a void deck. Great to see such ideas being championed further!

'It requires our authorities to move away from an attitude of so strictly regulating these spaces that they have become sterile, void of life.'

Join our friends at P!D for the playground hack!

Children in Singapore often have little influence on how play spaces are designed for them. The current design of public playgrounds is reduced to cookie-cutter, standardised equipment and numerous red-tape that limits its design. There are untapped opportunities to showcase the importance of play in and out of the classroom for the children’s development.

Calling all parents and kids! One day Pop-Up Play on 11 March, Sat at Bedok Town Plaza is a platform for us to co-create a new model of play environment where we would like to invite people to discover play and share with us your play stories and memories!

“We had to give them clear design interventions that could correlate to improve the outcomes that they were concerned about, and at the same time that we could design a project that could be built affordably, and that could have greater impact within that community by investing in more equitable building processes. That’s the kind of triple-bottom-line scenario that is compelling.”

“We think that this is not altruism, this is not philanthropy. This is about fundamentally creating value,” he says. “The market for architecture is tiny; it’s like, ‘who can afford it? Who wants icing on the cake? Then maybe we’ll have architects.’ If we think about it differently, if we think about design as fundamental to achieving the end goals of the service providers, the end goals of society, we create a lot more opportunity for architects.”
