The new 682m PIE pedestrian and cycling bridge, Singapore’s longest, is the final link for the Bishan-to-City Links project to create a continuous 10km green route from Bishan to the city.

Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat noted that the Urban Redevelopment Authority had made good progress on the construction, with more than half of the bridge completed.

"This is a complex project in a built-up area, and the works are being carried out in phases."

The PIE bridge and these improvement works will be completed by the second half of 2027.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ar. Alfred Wong. On behalf of the architectural community, SIA extends our heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

One of the first overseas-trained architects to return to Singapore towards the end of Colonial rule, Alfred Wong established his practice in 1957, now known as AWP PTE LTD.

Ar. Wong was a talented pioneer architect, part of the select group that shaped modern architecture in a newly independent Republic. His works saw the birth of an independent Singapore that brought forth a new vigour and patriotism. In recognition of his lifetime contributions to architecture and his distinguished service to the profession, he was the inaugural recipient of the SIA Gold Medal in 1998, the highest honour bestowed by the Singapore Institute of Architects.

Ar. Wong was also a founding member of SIA and played a pivotal role in establishing the independent professional body. Serving as the youngest SIA President, he led the institute for an unprecedented four terms between 1962 and 1966.

Ar. Wong will always be remembered for his significant contributions to the architectural profession, as well as for his passion and dedication to the craft.
