"5-year compressor warranty" sounds like 5 years of full protection. Usually it's not — most general warranties (parts + labour) run 1–2 years, and after that, labour to replace a compressor is billed separately, often $400–800. Check what your warranty card actually says.

Your aircon doesn't "naturally" lose gas every year — if a technician tells you that, ask why. A proper system is sealed; gas loss almost always means a leak, and topping up without fixing the leak just means you're paying for the same top-up again next year. Real fix > repeat top-ups.
