NS Square is taking shape in the heart of Marina Bay, where a dense urban footprint, waterside conditions and tight programme constraints demand more than conventional safety measures.

Asher Lum from Expand Construction Pte Ltd takes the stage at EHS Industry Seminar 2026 to share how cooling garments, AI-assisted video analytics, exoskeletons and robotics are being deployed to protect workers and lift safety outcomes on site.

How much of a safety officer's day is spent chasing paperwork instead of walking the site?

At SCAL EHS Industry Seminar, our programme partner, Ethan Ow from Wenti Labs Pte Ltd will show how AI is changing that equation. His presentation, AI Safety Agent: Allowing Safety Team Focus on What Matters, looks at how everyday WhatsApp messages, photos, and updates can be turned into structured safety actions โ€” cutting down on manual admin without disrupting how site teams already work.

Find out how practical AI workflows are helping safety officers track issues from report to rectification, close the loop faster, and give management clearer visibility on the ground.

Last week, SCAL had the privilege of welcoming Ms Jacqueline Poh, CEO of JTC Corporation, and her team to SCAL Construction Hub for a visit and dialogue session with our Council.

The exchange was highly fruitful, with JTC sharing an encouraging pipeline of upcoming projects in the years ahead and emphasising the importance of having capable and well-prepared contractors ready to deliver. The discussion also covered the use of TOL land to better support contractorsโ€™ operational needs, as well as the continued focus on improving industry conditions.

A key message from the session was the strong emphasis on safety - ensuring that it remains the top priority, especially as project activity ramps up in the coming period. It is also the best time for the industry to accelerate modularisation and automation, as Singapore positions itself for a more productive, safer, and more sustainable construction ecosystem.

We are grateful for JTCโ€™s engagement with SCAL and our Council. These meaningful conversations reinforce the importance of strong industryโ€“government collaboration in navigating the evolving built environment landscape. We look forward to working closely with JTC as we collectively raise the bar for the construction sector. ๐Ÿค

Heat stress and sudden lightning strikes are two of the most underestimated dangers on outdoor worksites โ€” until something goes wrong.

As a programme partner, Jasling Ong from APX Technologies Pte Ltd will be unpacking an integrated IoT-based Heat Stress and Lightning Risk Alert System built to flag these risks before they escalate. From real-time WBGT sensors to site-wide strobe and siren alerts, this solution helps supervisors catch danger early and act fast.

Discover how proactive monitoring is helping worksites strengthen emergency preparedness, protect workers, and stay productive โ€” without compromising on safety.

PPE and administrative controls have their place. But what if the hazard didn't need to exist at all?

At SCAL EHS Industry Seminar on 2 July, learn how Design for Safety principles โ€” underpinned by Singapore's WSH (DfS) Regulations and SS ISO 12100 โ€” give project teams a framework to eliminate risks at their source, across every stage of the project lifecycle, as presented by Goh Chye Guan from SMER Pte Ltd.

And that's a wrap on Part 2 of SCAL's Sustainable Builder Seminar Series! ๐ŸŽ‰

Themed "Turning ESG Principles into Action on Site", the afternoon covered a rich range of themes - from on-site decarbonisation strategies, ESG implementation frameworks, and workplace safety integration, to supply chain sustainability, smart metering and reporting tools, and the carbon footprint of everyday building materials.

A reminder that sustainable construction runs through every layer of how we build, source, and operate.

A heartfelt thank you to our Recognised Sustainable Builders โ€” Mr Allan Low from Teambuild Engineering & Construction, Mr Tam Wee Hao from Kajima Overseas Asia, Mr Sim Boon Seng from Rich Construction Company, and Mr David Sweeney from Penta-Ocean Construction Company Limited for sharing their ESG journeys with such openness and generosity.

Mr Ian Chung from Building and Construction Authority (Singapore) also shared the latest industry circular on the Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG), now extended to 2028 (base tier) and 2027 (advanced tier), with 86 pre-approved energy-efficient equipment from 20 brands to help contractors go greener.

And to our industry partners - Far East, L-QuBE Pte Ltd, and (S) Pte Ltd, thank you for rounding out the afternoon with practical tools and solutions that contractors can act on immediately.

The momentum continues as SCALโ€™s first-ever ESG Week draws closer this Sept! Keep an eye on our social channels and website for latest updates: www.scal.com.sg/events

Smart Safety, Real Results: EHS Week 2026 Workshops

Two days. Three sessions. One goal โ€” safer, smarter construction sites.

On 30 June, ViAct - Construction Management Software opens at 10am with a look at how digital tools and smart safety solutions are enabling real-time decision-making on-site, followed by Novade and CSG Group at 1pm on how digitalisation drives efficiency, safety tracking, and site coordination.

On 1 July, day two brings Lisa Liu, Country Director of Glodon Singapore, presenting "AI+Smart Tower Crane, Re-define Productivity & Safety on-site" โ€” unpacking how AI-enabled tower cranes are reshaping safety and operational control, and what real-world deployment looks like for your projects.
