AYU Launches Backfilling Project to Improve Accessibility of Youth Center

The Abyei Youth Union (AYU), in collaboration with Agany Alei Company for Roads, Bridges and Construction, has officially commenced the backfilling project for the Abyei Youth Union Center as part of ongoing efforts to improve the facility’s infrastructure and ensure year-round accessibility.

The project aims to transport and provide more than 60 truckloads of sand to raise and strengthen the center’s compound ahead of the rainy season.

The initiative is intended to improve access to the center and create a more conducive environment for youth programs, meetings, training sessions, conferences, and community activities. It will also support the Union’s broader objective of bringing young people together, fostering a culture of unity, and strengthening youth participation in community development.

AYU leadership described the project as an important step toward enhancing the functionality of the center and ensuring it remains accessible during periods of heavy rainfall. The leadership further noted that the improvement of the center will contribute to creating a safe and welcoming space for youth engagement, capacity-building activities, and community dialogue.

The Abyei Youth Union expressed its appreciation to Agany Alei Company for Roads, Bridges and Construction and all individuals contributing to the implementation of the project, noting that further updates will be provided as the work progresses.

Abyei Youth Union Launches Vocational Skills Training for Youth in Rum-Ajak

The Abyei Youth Union (AYU), in collaboration with INDBAAT, has launched a vocational skills training program in Rum-Ajak aimed at strengthening the capacity of young people and enhancing their employment prospects.

The training, which commenced on June 21, 2026, has brought together 25 participants, including eight females. The program focuses on practical and technical skills in welding, electricity, and vehicle servicing.

The initiative seeks to equip young people with marketable skills that can improve their livelihoods, promote self-reliance, and contribute to local economic development. Participants are expected to receive certificates upon successful completion of the training after several days of instruction.

Speaking at the launch, the Secretary of Counties Affairs and Acting Secretary of Information, who also serves as the official spokesperson of the Abyei Youth Union, Mr. Chol Luar Mayol, underscored the importance of investing in technical and vocational education for young people.

He said the program would provide participants with valuable hands-on experience and practical knowledge, enabling them to access employment opportunities and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The training forms part of ongoing efforts by the Abyei Youth Union and its partners to strengthen youth capacity, promote skills development, and support sustainable development across Abyei.

The initiative reflects a growing commitment by local organizations and development partners to empower youth through vocational education and create pathways to economic opportunity in the region.

Abyei Youth Executive office Strengthen Ties with Juba-Based Associations in Courtesy Meeting

A courtesy meeting aimed at strengthening cooperation among Abyei youth organizations was successfully held today, bringing together key community leaders and student representatives in Juba yesterday 18th March 2026.

The meeting was led by Arop Deng Adol, Secretary for Sports of the Abyei Youth Union, who represented the Union’s Chairperson, Chan Mijak Dau. It convened leadership from three prominent Abyei community associations operating in Juba,the Abyei Youth Association in Juba, headed by Molana Angelo Yout; the Abyei Students Association in Universities and Higher Institutions (ABUSA), led by Molana Dau Akot Koldau; and the Abyei Students and Pupils' Association in Juba (ASPA), chaired by Ustaz Kuol Arop Kuol.

In his opening remarks, Arop Deng Adol conveyed greetings from the Abyei Youth Union leadership and reaffirmed its commitment to building stronger collaboration with youth and student bodies in Juba. He emphasized the importance of unity and coordinated efforts in addressing issues affecting Abyei youth.

Focus on Shared Challenges

Discussions centered on enhancing cooperation between the Abyei Youth Union and the Juba-based associations, with participants highlighting the need for a unified approach to common challenges.

Key issues addressed included barriers to education, particularly financial constraints and the need for improved academic support for students in universities and schools. Participants also underscored the importance of revitalizing sports and cultural activities as a means of fostering unity and preserving identity.

Youth empowerment emerged as another priority, with calls for expanded opportunities in skills development and engagement programs. Additionally, the meeting examined concerns related to student welfare, including accommodation, financial assistance, and general guidance.

Abyei Youth Union Hosts Induction Workshop to Empower Leadership and Mobilize Resources

Abyei, January 24, 2026 – The executive team of the Abyei Youth Union organized an induction workshop on January 24 under the theme "Empowering Leadership, Strengthening Roles and Responsibilities, and Resource Mobilization for Abyei Youth Union Growth."

The event gathered executive members and key stakeholders to address critical issues impacting the union's development.

In his opening remarks, Honorable Yohana Akol Ngor, Minister of the Ministry of Information, Communication, Culture, Youth and Sport, stressed the workshop's vital role in fostering youth leadership for Abyei's overall progress and future skill-building initiatives.

He underscored the union's capacity to drive meaningful change and urged participants to actively contribute to the discussions.

The workshop was regarded as an essential initiative in providing executive members with the necessary skills and knowledge to advance the union's growth.

The newly constituted Body of the Abyei Youth Union, led by elected Chairman Mr. Chan Mijak Dau, made a cordial visit to the Deputy Chief Administrator and Acting Chief Administrator, Hon. Brig. Gen. Arop Deng Kuol. Accompanying them was Hon. Yohana Akol Ngor, Minister of Information, Culture, Youth, and Sport.

This visit served to formally introduce the newly elected executive body following the 4th convention of the Abyei Youth Union. Additionally, it aimed to foster long-term support and cooperation with the local government.

In his speech, Mr. Chan Mijak Dau, the recently elected Chairman of the Abyei Youth Union, expressed his appreciation for the Deputy Chief Administrator's warm welcome. He emphasized their commitment to collaborating closely with the local government to enhance the welfare of the community and the youth.

As the new leadership was introduced to the Deputy Chief Administrator, the Deputy Chief Administrator appealed to the youth to actively participate in fortifying stability and bolstering initiatives aimed at ensuring security and stability in the area. He stated that the administration would strongly support the Youth Union and encouraged the youth to actively participate in initiatives that promote stability in the area, especially by upholding the accord made between the Ngok Youth Union and the Twic Youth Union of Warrap State.
