Growth of density in urban contexts has led to changes in quality of our living. The lack of public open spaces and parks has become a critical issue, especially in the metropolitan area of Bangkok, where people spend most of their lives inside individual buildings rather than in public grounds. As a result, people have become detached from nature, living in the degraded environment of a concrete jungle. With the limited amounts of available spaces remaining in the inner urban areas, providing adequate outdoor living quality has become increasingly challenging and calls for alternative public space solutions.
PUNN Smart Workspace, a modern green office building located in the Rama IV district, the emerging CBD and future smart city of Bangkok, positions itself as a friendly neighbor within the community, focusing on livability and environment enhancement for nearby residents. Embracing the crowded neighborhood, Punn introduces a privately owned public space (POPS) at the building’s frontage to reimagine the streetscape and promote smart community engagement through integrated public ground. The new extensions, a pocket park and an urban plaza, create diverse opportunities for street activities where culture naturally flows, transforming existing urban infrastructure into inclusive social, economic, and environmental assets for everyday life. The alternative sharing model serves as a key prototype for public space development within future smart districts, inspiring the growth of a comprehensive green network across Bangkok’s dense urban fabric.
