NOBLE PLAY

Noble play is a new art gallery located along the Ploenchit road in the central Bangkok. The project aims to transform a pre-existing space into a temporary art exhibition, with an emphasis on the 21st-century art. The original architectural features were a double-height open planning with a rough finish. The main strategy is to preserve an old finishing while insert a new contrast element to the space.

“Reflection” is the key concept for this project which we attempt to create a resonance between art and gallery. We design a ceiling feature with irregular line and angle attach with a reflection material. This element will create a reflective backdrop for the gallery which resonance with everything happen in the exhibition including movement. As a result, the gallery atmosphere will be varying depend on the current activity that occur at the moment.

The double-height space in front will act as the main gallery facing to the main road. Due to the small mezzanine area, we extent the floor for additional programs such as workshop, café, and meeting area. The open-auditorium create a vertical connection while fully expose to the exhibition area.

ARTISAN HOUSE

In order to support an extended family, the owner want to use an existing garage roof top as an annex. With limitation in term of area, function divides into 3 floors. The first floor of an annex serves as a gallery exhibiting owner’s art collections connecting to an existing living room with indoor bridge. The second floor uses as two children bedrooms each with private bathrooms linking to an existing house roof top which will later be used as playground. The third floor uses as fitness with large opening making it airy, and comfortable.
The owner do not have the intention of making an annex look alike an existing house, but rather want something that state different. Therefore, we use brick as the main material for the design. With different brick patterns, various circle openings, and brass trim, the wall becomes the big canvas that had been filled with art statement.
Decorating wall, and ceiling with wood batten for an annex first floor’s interior creates a backdrop for art works collected to be displayed.

“OUR” HOUSE

We had been asked to renovate an existing shop house to accommodate three families. The old structure has 7 split-storeys with large staircase locating in the middle connecting each rooms together. Individual family’s members have different needs therefore various spaces were created to serve diverse needs.
With diverse requirements of space causes lack of unity. We then bring the old structure’s identity, staircase, and use it as a community space where family members could still share. Rooms in each split-storey serve as individual private bedrooms. But for communal spaces, rooms are designed to be visually connected therefore create sense of connection while individual could still perform their private matter.
