Matteo Messervy.Ltd Light installations design and bring the urban environment to life

When laying out the lighting design for Frantzén, we carefully considered the architectural character of the site and its distinctive cultural signature.
Landscaping : Matteo Messervy
Client : Villa Frantzén
Location : Bangkok, Thailand
Our concept drew from the unique quality of northern light and how ScandInavian cultures have developed a particular relationship to it and the deep psychological and emotional impact it has on people. The high contrasts of luminance between seasons with its low angles and slow, beautiful day-night transitions of long sunrises, sunsets and endless nights .
The importance of the fireplace and candlelight , the symbolic prevalence of amber or “Nordic Gold '', with its warm radiant hues and reflections, along with the clean, pure, airy lines that aim to put an emphasis on atmosphere and wellness rather than just brightness.
Light becomes a therapeutic medium and a language that establishes a sensorial, healing experience and an interactive dialogue between people, nature and the built environment. Leading to a human-centered lighting design that would focus on both well-being, aesthetics and functionality.

The whispers of a community

Exterior Design/Art installation : Matteo Messervy

Location: Bangkok, Thailand
A front facade and tunnel entirely cladded by traditional Lanna style carved wooden panels, like a centuries old ancient Thai village dismantled and rearranged as a jigsaw puzzle weightlessly suspended above ground, defying gravity.
The notion of time and a deep sense of historical and cultural consciousness is palpable and oddly enigmatic, almost otherworldly. A form of geolocalized quantum wormhole linking elements of the past that are rapidly disappearing from the urban landscape, like the traditional wood houses of yore which were the city’s predominant architectural signature and a perfectly mastered skill and “savoir-faire” which could soon be lost, rapidly replaced by the metal and concrete jungle of the present time. Propelling this condensed time and space continuum in which the past adorns the present to build the future, to better reimagine the possibility of the city to come through a prophetic visual statement.

Thank you The New York Times, what a beautiful article.
Our greatest gratitude again to be apart of this magical moment of co-creation Robot Heart 🙏🏻 Hoping to be a part of this amazing collaboration again.
Client: Robot Heart Foundation
Light-Art installation : Matteo Messervy
Location: Wollman Rink NYC Central Park, New York
After more than two years of a world immersed in a pandemic, Matteo's work aims at restoring a deep sense of how Art can act as a powerful unifying and cathartic force.
Matteo's vision of the light-art installation goal is to explore new forms of modular architectures with multi-directional geometrical perspectives evolving into a four-dimensional space by including the notion of Time. Establishing an unspoken universal dialogue between man-made structures, people and the natural ecosystems.
Matteo's goal is to unveils a visual allegory and reflection on the spatial, cultural and temporal implications of the way human beings become increasingly conscious of their physical environment, its kinetic boundaries and limitations and how they endeavor to grow beyond that reality through Unity, Connection and Interaction. Co-existence, Resilience and transcendence.

After a two-year hiatus, the Robot Heart party, normally held during Burning Man, made its return to glory and debut in the Big Apple.

KANGKAO RECONNECT 515Victory
Client: Kangkao
Art installation : Matteo Messervy
Video Editor: Perfunction
Location: Bangkok, Thailand
The inspiration for Kangkao stems from multiple sources.
It is an artistic exploration and allegory of the multi-sensorial and emotional understandings of architectural representations through straight lines, vectors, parallels, angles, cross-sections and their dynamic interactions. Playing with sequential timing, speed and multichromatic variations. An understanding of their spatial, cultural and temporal implications in the way human beings become conscious of their built environment.
The notion of corridor, passageway made of neural and photonic networks that conveys optical information to serve as an introduction, a connection from the outside world to guide visitors to a form of conceptual antechamber where the visual centerpiece unfolds.
Bringing elements of nature through the use of the smoke machine, in any of its numerous forms, inside the built environment is a major aspect of the concept. In this case, it relies on a choreographed version of cosmic phenomena such as the so-called “Jacob’s Ladder” or a “ladder to heaven” which describes the peculiarity of the sun’s crepuscular rays shine through clouds or windows and collide with water or dust particles that scatter and split light from above down to the on-looker. Or the beams of light converging on the opposite side of the sun, or the “anitsolar” point.
This whole “ballet” of light is the canvas, the cocoon in which the masterpiece is unveiled as a premonitory sensorial manifesto presenting an artistic and aesthetic vision of what cities could be like in the future.

Panta Rhei, "Everything flows" (Heraclitus)
Client: 515 Victory
Art installation : Matteo Messervy
Video : Perfunction
Location: Bangkok, Thailand
The artistic illumination of the waterfall both contrasts and calls attention to the constructed nature of the surrounding area, while the tumbling water highlights the presence of larger natural forces that play upon this urban environment.
Matteo Messervy creates dots and brushes of light like lit synaptic pathways in the hippocampus, the area of the brain responsible for memory, as a reminder of the place’s own cultural history it wishes to bring back to life and preserve.
The copernician, heliocentric nature of the masterpiece which has the onlookers as the ones revolving around it like planets around the sun, sensing and acknowledging its movement mirroring the flow of our own thoughts and daydreams. Symbolizing the process of letting go, the process of cleansing, and the perpetual flow of time energy and life. Stillness in motion. A voyage of the oniric mind.
