ผลงานศิลปะภาพถ่ายชุด N01SE.jpg ของ ณณฐ ธนพรรพี เป็นความพยายามในการค้นหาขีดจำกัดของกล้อง CANON 60D ที่เขาใช้ในการสร้างงานศิลปะมาโดยตลอด “ขีดจำกัด” ที่ว่านั้น คือ ความสามารถในการสร้างสรรพสิ่งให้เกิดขึ้น ภายใต้เงื่อนไขเชิงสัมพัทธ์ระหว่างกายภาพของกล้องหรือเทคโนโลยี กับ ธรรมชาติหรือบริบทสภาพแวดล้อม

ถ้าหากการทำงานของกล้องดิจิตอลคือ การบันทึกค่าของแสงจากปรากฏการณ์ทางธรรมชาติและสำเนาออกมาในรูปแบบของ pixel ที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นหลักฐานการของ ‘เหตุการณ์ที่ต้องการบันทึก’ โดยปกติแล้วการตั้งค่ารับแสงหรือ ISO จะต้องสอดคล้องกันระหว่าง ‘การรับรู้แสงของมนุษย์ กับ ค่าความสว่างของฉากหรือเหตุการณ์นั้นๆ’ กล้องจึงทำหน้าที่เป็นเครื่องมือในการบันทึกสิ่งที่ผู้ถ่ายเคยมองเห็น ให้เกิดขึ้นเป็นบันทึกของเหตุการณ์

การตั้งค่า ISO ไว้ที่ 12800 ซึ่งเป็นค่าสูงสุดของกล้องที่ณณฐใช้ จึงหมายถึงความพยายามในการเก็บ ‘ค่าของแสง’ ให้มากที่สุดเท่าที่ขีดจำกัดทางเทคโนโลยีของกล้องจะอำนวยโดยไม่คำนึงถึงความสัมพันธ์ดังกล่าว สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นเมื่อลั่นชัตเตอร์จึงเป็นการบันทึกสิ่งที่กล้องตัวนี้เห็นในระดับที่เหนือกว่าสายตาของมนุษย์ เมื่อบันทึกค่าการมีอยู่ของแสงแล้ว แสงจะถูกแปร/แปลค่าอีกครั้งผ่านระบบ pixel ให้เกิดเป็นภาษาหรือภาพที่มนุษย์สามารถรับรู้ได้ โดยทั่วไปมนุษย์จะเรียกสิ่งที่ปรากฏขึ้นว่า ‘noise’ ซึ่งนำมาสู่การกำจัด noise เพื่อทำให้สิ่งที่ถูกสำเนาใกล้เคียงกับความเป็นมนุษย์หรือสิ่งที่ผู้ถ่ายเห็นมากที่สุด แต่ในมุมกลับ noise กลายเป็นหลักฐานการมีอยู่ของ ‘กล้องและเทคโนโลยี’

จากประเด็นดังกล่าว N01SE.jpg เป็นชุดผลงานศิลปะที่กำลังเขียน ‘ประวัติศาสตร์เชิงเทคโนโลยี’ ของกล้อง CANON60D ผ่าน noise ที่ทำหน้าที่เป็น ‘หลักฐานชั้นต้น’ ที่แสดงออกถึง ‘เนื้อหนังและตัวตน’ ของกล้องนี้ ณณฐใช้เทคนิคต่างๆ ในการสำรวจและบันทึกหลักฐานนี้ ไล่ไปตั้งแต่การค้นหา noise โดยนำตัวเองเข้าไปควบคุมแสง จวบจนการลบตัวเองออกไปให้เหลือแต่เพียงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างกล้องกับแสงเท่านั้น สุดท้ายนี้ หากเปรียบณณฐที่ลั่นชัตเตอร์ว่าเป็นพระเจ้าที่สร้างภาพถ่ายเหล่านี้ขึ้น ภาพถ่ายเหล่านี้ก็เป็นตัวแทนที่อ้างอิงถึงตัวตนที่มีอำนาจเหนือกว่าการควบคุมของพระเจ้าผู้สร้าง มนุษย์จะรับรู้ตัวตนนั้นได้ก็ต่อเมื่อแสงนั้นถูกแปรค่าเป็น pixel แล้ว

A photographic series – N01SE.jpg –by Nanut Thanapornrapee is an attempt to discover the limitation of CANON 60D which he always uses for creating an artwork. This limitation refers to the ability to create or make visible the things under the relative condition between the camera’s physical potentiality, or its technology, and the natural phenomenon, or its environment.

If the function of a digital camera is to record the light values of that natural phenomenon and represent it through ‘pixel ’ which works as an evidence of that ‘recorded event’, ‘ISO’ will be set to supplement or satisfy the ‘correlation’ between human reception/experience and light volume of that event. A camera is thus a tool to record and reproduce what the photographer perceived, creating a representation of the experience.

By setting ISO at 12800 which is the highest values available for Thanapornrapee’s camera, he tries to capture the ‘maximum light values’ that his camera is capable of by exploiting its fullest capacity regardless of the aforementioned ‘correlationship’. The result is the record of what the camera perceives that exists beyond human reception. Then, this record will be ‘translated’ through the system of ‘pixel’ creating the representation that is comprehensible or perceivable by the human eyes. Generally, the result will be considered as a ‘noise’ which will be eliminated in order to create the perfect mimesis of what the photographer saw. On the other hands, ‘noise’ becomes the existential evidence of that ‘camera and technology’.

Under such conception, N01SE.jpg is a series of photographs that works as a historiography of CANON60D’s technology by treating these noises as ‘primary sources’ that are representing its ‘B’ody and its expressive entity. Thanapornrapee uses various techniques to explore and record these evidence – from using himself as a phenomenal manipulator to the erasure of the photographer’s trace, himself, leaving the relationship between the camera and the light untouched. Lastly, if Thanapornrapee, who presses the shutter, is seen as God who creates these photographs, these photographs then are referential evidence of Creations existing beyond the power of this God. Human can only perceive them in forms of representation of which they are metamorphosized into ‘pixel’.
