Tulips in any form, colour and combination you can imagine. 32 hectares in the old kitchen garden. Makes Chelsea seem a squalid little affair.

It would be the hottest day so far that we have to shift 2 tons of gravel to finish this dry garden.
My happy helper 💕.

Job half way done to show how the gravel helps the plants pop. A few more months and there will be plenty of colour and movement.

Next level wrapping to protect from frosts.
The bamboo rush wraps are used to capture the insects coming down to winter on the ground. They winter in the wraps and these are then burnt.

I came to Kanazawa to see the tying of the trees, which protects from winter snow fall and the weight that wrecks the curated forms. Little did I know they don't to protect the shrubs too.
As one gardener to another, this guy was happy for me to film him doing his job. It looks simple, but that belies years of experience.
