Mnemonic Facade เป็นนิทรรศการ Interactive Installation ที่จัดขึ้นเนื่องในโอกาสครบรอบ 70 ปี คณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร โดยชวนศิษย์เก่าและสมาชิกในชุมชนของคณะกลับมาร่วมรื้อฟื้นบรรยากาศ เรื่องราว และความทรงจำที่เคยเกิดขึ้นภายในพื้นที่แห่งนี้ ผ่านคลังภาพถ่ายและกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ ที่หลายคนเคยมีส่วนร่วมและจดจำร่วมกัน

กิจกรรมเริ่มต้นจากการสแกน QR Code เพื่อทำแบบสอบถามสั้น ๆ ภายใต้คำถามว่า
“คุณคิดถึงกิจกรรมใดมากที่สุดในช่วงที่ยังเรียนอยู่?”

ผู้เข้าร่วมสามารถบอกเล่าความรู้สึก ความทรงจำ และอัปโหลดภาพถ่ายที่เชื่อมโยงกับช่วงเวลานั้น เพื่อร่วมกันสร้างคลังความทรงจำที่สะท้อนมุมมองและความรู้สึกคิดถึงที่แตกต่างกันของแต่ละคน

เมื่อทำแบบสอบถามเสร็จสิ้น ระบบจะสร้าง Digital Postcard ที่บันทึกความทรงจำของผู้เข้าร่วมไว้ในรูปแบบเฉพาะบุคคล สามารถเก็บไว้หรือส่งต่อให้เพื่อน พี่ และน้อง เพื่อชวนให้ผู้คนกลับมาร่วมแบ่งปันเรื่องราวและเติมเต็มคลังความทรงจำนี้ต่อไป

ภายในพื้นที่นิทรรศการ ภาพถ่ายทั้งหมดที่ได้รับจากผู้เข้าร่วมจะถูกนำกลับมาจัดแสดงในรูปแบบของ Mnemonic Facade — ฟาซาดแห่งความทรงจำ โดยสัดส่วนของภาพในแต่ละส่วนจะเปลี่ยนแปลงไปตาม “ระดับความคิดถึง” ที่ผู้เข้าร่วมได้เลือกไว้ ภายใต้ 7 หมวดหมู่แห่งความทรงจำ

จากความทรงจำส่วนบุคคลที่กระจัดกระจายอยู่ในช่วงเวลาและประสบการณ์ที่แตกต่างกัน ภาพถ่ายเหล่านี้จึงค่อย ๆ ถูกประกอบขึ้นใหม่เป็นภาพร่วมของชีวิตในคณะ และเปลี่ยนฟาซาดของอาคารให้กลายเป็นพื้นที่ที่บันทึกและสะท้อน ความทรงจำร่วมของผู้คนหลายรุ่น

Mnemonic Facade is an interactive installation created to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Architecture, Silpakorn University. The project invites alumni and members of the Faculty community to revisit the atmosphere, experiences, and collective memories associated with their time at the Faculty through an evolving archive of photographs and shared activities.

The experience begins with a QR code–based survey asking participants to identify the activity they miss most from their time as students. Participants are also invited to share personal reflections and upload photographs associated with these memories, contributing to a collective archive that represents diverse perspectives of nostalgia within the Faculty community.

Upon completion of the survey, a Digital Postcard is generated as a personalized record of participation. It can also be shared with friends, seniors, and juniors, extending the invitation for others to contribute their own memories to the growing archive.

Within the exhibition, the submitted photographs are brought together to form the Mnemonic Facade — a facade of memories. The visual composition is determined by the proportion of responses associated with different levels of nostalgia, organized across seven categories of memories.

Through this process, individual photographs and personal recollections are gradually transformed into a collective representation of life within the Faculty, turning the architectural facade into a surface through which memories from different generations can coexist, overlap, and be rediscovered.

หากพูดถึงย่านที่เต็มไปด้วยความหลากหลายทั้งวัฒนธรรม วิถีชีวิต และสถาปัตยกรรม หนึ่งในชื่อที่หลายคนนึกถึงคงหนีไม่พ้น “บางลำพู” ย่านเก่าแก่ที่ดูคึกคักอยู่เสมอ แต่เบื้องหลังความมีชีวิตชีวานี้ ยังมีเรื่องราวทางประวัติศาสตร์ที่ซ่อนอยู่อีกมากมาย เพราะกว่าบางลำพูจะกลายมาเป็นอย่างที่เราเห็นในปัจจุบัน พื้นที่แห่งนี้ได้ผ่านการเปลี่ยนบทบาทไปตามการพัฒนาของเมืองมาโดยตลอด
เดิมทีบางลำพูเคยเป็นพื้นที่ลุ่มริมน้ำที่มีต้นลำพูขึ้นอยู่อย่างหนาแน่น ก่อนจะถูกยกระดับให้มีความสำคัญในฐานะพื้นที่ยุทธศาสตร์ของการสร้างพระนครในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 1 การพัฒนานี้นำมาซึ่งการหลอมรวมของผู้คนหลากหลายชาติพันธุ์ ทั้งไทย มอญ มลายู และจีน จนบางลำพูกลายเป็นย่านหัตถกรรมชั้นสูงและศูนย์กลางการค้าทางน้ำที่คึกคักในเวลาต่อมาเมื่อสังคมก้าวเข้าสู่ยุคการคมนาคมทางบก บางลำพูก็ปรับตัวเป็นตลาดบกและย่านการค้าที่ทันสมัยที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในยุคนั้น ทั้งยังเคยเป็นศูนย์รวมแฟชั่นและห้างสรรพสินค้า ก่อนจะมาถึงจุดเปลี่ยนสำคัญในปัจจุบัน เมื่อถนนข้าวสารและพื้นที่โดยรอบกลายเป็น “พื้นที่สากล” ที่ต้อนรับนักเดินทางจากทั่วโลก
การเปลี่ยนแปลงเหล่านี้ไม่ได้หมายถึงการละทิ้งรากเหง้าเดิม ซ้อนความทรงจำใหม่ลงบนพื้นที่เก่าจนเกิดเป็นอัตลักษณ์พหุวัฒนธรรมที่ชัดเจน เห็นได้จากชุมชนบวรรังสีหรือย่านบ้านพานถม ที่ยังคงวิถีชีวิตดั้งเดิมควบคู่ไปกับธุรกิจท่องเที่ยวสมัยใหม่ ความหลากหลายทั้งหมดนี้เองที่เป็นหัวใจของบางลำพู ย่านที่เปิดกว้างต่อความเปลี่ยนแปลง และยังคงรักษาเสน่ห์ของความเป็นย่านเก่าไว้ได้อย่างดี
และด้วยความสลับซับซ้อนของเรื่องราวภายใต้อัตลักษณ์แห่งความหลากหลายนี้เอง Banglamphu Walking History จึงจะพาทุกคนกลับไปทบทวนและทำความรู้จักเรื่องราวและวิถีชีวิตของบางลำพูในรูปแบบเกม 8-bit เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้ชมสวมบทบาทเป็น “หิ่งห้อย” ที่ลอยสำรวจพื้นที่ เรียนรู้เรื่องราวของย่านผ่านสถาปัตยกรรม ผู้คน และกิจกรรมที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามกาลเวลา โดยสามารถเลือกเปลี่ยน “ด่าน” ของบางลำพูได้ ซึ่งแบ่งออกเป็น 3 ยุคหลัก ผ่านการสลับตลับเกมสไตล์ยุค 90s ที่เตรียมไว้สำหรับแต่ละช่วงเวลานอกจากการสำรวจแล้ว ผู้ชมยังสามารถมีส่วนร่วมในการสร้างตัวละคร NPC เพื่อนำเข้าไปอยู่ในโลกของเกม ทำให้บางลำพูในนิทรรศการแห่งนี้ไม่ใช่เพียงพื้นที่ของอดีตที่ถูกเล่าให้ฟัง แต่เป็นพื้นที่มีชีวิตที่เปิดให้ทุกคนได้ร่วมสร้างและตีความในรูปแบบของตนเองไปพร้อมกัน

When discussing districts brimming with diversity in culture, lifestyle, and architecture, "Banglamphu" inevitably comes to mind a historic neighborhood that remains perpetually vibrant. Yet, behind this liveliness lies a wealth of hidden history. To become the district we see today, Banglamphu has continuously evolved, shifting its role in step with the city’s development.

Originally a low-lying riverside area densely populated with cork trees (Lamphu), the area was elevated to strategic importance during the establishment of the capital in the reign of King Rama I. This development fostered a melting pot of diverse ethnicities—Thai, Mon, Malay, and Chinese—transforming Banglamphu into a hub for high-quality craftsmanship and a bustling center of riverine trade. As society transitioned to the era of land transportation, Banglamphu adapted, becoming a land-based market and one of the most modern commercial districts of the time, once serving as a center for fashion and department stores. This leads to its current significant turning point, where Khao San Road and its surrounding areas have become an "international space" welcoming travelers from across the globe.

These changes do not signify an abandonment of original roots; rather, new memories are layered upon the old, creating a distinct multicultural identity. This is evident in communities like Bowon Rangsi or Ban Phan Thom, where traditional ways of life coexist alongside modern tourism businesses. This diversity is the very heart of Banglamphu—a district that embraces change while successfully preserving the charm of its heritage.

Given the complexity of these stories within this diverse identity, "Banglamphu Walking History" invites everyone to revisit and explore the history and lifestyle of Banglamphu through an 8-bit game format. Visitors are given the chance to take on the role of a "firefly," floating through the area to learn about the district through its architecture, people, and activities as they have changed over time. Players can choose to switch between "levels" of Banglamphu, divided into three main eras, by swapping 90s-style game cartridges prepared for each time period. Beyond exploration, participants can also co-create NPC characters to inhabit the game world, ensuring that the Banglamphu of this exhibition is not merely a space of the past recounted to an audience, but a living space that invites everyone to co-create and interpret the narrative in their own way.

“Banglumphu Playing History” is an interactive exhibition that reimagines the evolution of Bangkok’s historic Banglamphu district through the lens of an 8-bit video game. Tracing the area’s transformation from a riverside area abundant with cork trees and a strategic craft hub to a modern international destination, the project invites visitors to explore three distinct historical eras by switching 90s-style game cartridges. Participants take on the role of a “firefly” to navigate the changing architecture and lifestyles, and can even create their own NPC characters to inhabit the game world, effectively blending the district’s rich multicultural heritage with a participatory, modern storytelling experience.
