The Listening Room is Complete
This room is a project that the entire team has poured their heart and soul into. I'm truly grateful to the owner for giving us this opportunity. It's almost like I've created my own dream room as well, because during the design process, the client and I were on the same page. We didn't want just a room with great sound but one that was also visually appealing. Additionally, this room was designed specifically for Tannoy Kensington speakers, one of the few pairs in Thailand. These speakers are among my favorites, both for their sound quality and the exquisite craftsmanship of the wood. This room was designed to complement these speakers perfectly.
However, I didn't design this room alone. Credit must also go to Thamanit Tee Mukthana-anan and Kris Horpaopan, who played a significant role in defining the direction and providing technical advice. Another important person is Arthit from Sunmaster, who helped with the audio-grade power outlets and breaker box made from solid 6061 aluminum, finished with sandblasted silicon carbide. This was a custom design specifically for this room.
The interior finishes were done using solid teak wood structure with the sapwood removed, which is the younger part of the tree. This makes it stronger and less susceptible to insect damage. The challenge was to ensure that everything was as sturdy and rigid as possible to minimize resonance. After the woodwork was completed, but before the final finish, we brought in the audio equipment to test the room and ensure there were no vibrations causing disturbances. Only then could we proceed with the final finishing.
For the media storage, I designed a drawer system that can hold 500 CDs, allowing for easy categorization and retrieval. This is a common pain point for people with large CD collections – trying to find a specific album can be frustrating. For vinyl records, it can hold up to 450. The floor is made of 6-inch width Burmese teak that is over 60 years old.

เสร็จแล้วห้องฟังเพลง
ห้องนี้เป็นโปรเจคที่ทีมงานทุกคนตั้งใจมากๆ ขอบคุณเจ้าของห้องที่ให้โอกาส จริงๆ ก็เหมือนได้ทำห้องในฝันของตัวเองไปด้วยเพราะตอนออกแบบผมกับลูกค้ามีความเห็นตรงกันอย่างหนึ่งคือเราอยากได้ห้องฟังที่ดูดีและมีบรรยากาศที่ดี เข้าไปนั่งฟังเพลงแล้วสามารถผ่อนคลายมีวิวสวนร่มรื่นอยู่ด้านหลัง มีตู้ชงเครื่องดื่มมาดื่มไปด้วยได้ เราไม่อยากได้ห้องฟังที่แค่เสียงดีอย่างเดียวแต่ดูไม่สบายตา นอกจากนั้นห้องนี้ถูกกำหนดให้ใช้ลำโพง Tannoy Kensington ตั้งแต่แรกซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในไม่กี่คู่ในไทย เป็นลำโพงที่ผมชอบมากทั้งแนวเสียงและความประณีตสวยงามของช่างฝีมืองานไม้ จริงๆ ห้องนี้ถูกออกแบบมาให้เข้ากับลำโพงคู่นี้
แต่ห้องนี้ไม่ใช่งานออกแบบของผมคนเดียว ต้องให้เครดิตพี่ที ธรรมนิตย์ มุกด์ธนะอนันต์ และพี่กฤตย์ ฮ้อเผ่าพันธ์ ด้วยเพราะมีส่วนช่วยอย่างมากในการกำหนดแนวทางและให้คำแนะนำทางด้านเทคนิค อีกท่านที่สำคัญคือพี่อาทิตย์จาก Sunmaster ช่วยทำปลั๊กไฟ และตู้เบรกเกอร์ออดิโอเกรด CNC จากอลูมิเนียม 6061 ตันๆ ทั้งก้อน แล้ว finishing ผิวด้วยงานพ่นทราย silicon carbide เป็นงานออกแบบสำหรับห้องนี้โดยเฉพาะ
งานตกแต่งเป็นงานเพาะโครงด้วยไม้สักเนื้อทั้งหมด ไม้สักเนื้อคือไม้ที่คัดส่วนกระพี้ไม้ออกซึ่งเป็นไม้ส่วนที่มีอายุน้อย ทำให้มีความแข็งแรงและลดโอกาสเกิดปัญหาแมลงกัดกิน ความยากอยู่ตรงที่ทุกอย่างต้องแน่นแข็งแรงที่สุดเพื่อลดการเกิด Resonance ตอนทำงานไม้เสร็จก่อน finishing ต้องมีการยกเครื่องเสียงเข้ามาทดสอบในห้องเพื่อให้แน่ใจว่าไม่มีอะไรที่สั่นสะเทือนให้เกิดเสียงรบกวนจึงจะจบงาน Finishing ได้
ในส่วน Media Storage ผมออกแบบให้เก็บ CD ได้ 500 แผ่น เป็นลิ้นชัก สามารถจัดหมวดหมู่และค้นหาได้ง่าย ซึ่งเป็น Pain Point ของคนเก็บ CD เยอะๆ คือจะฟังอะไรหาไม่เจอ กว่าจะเจอก็อยากฟังอย่างอื่นแล้ว ส่วน Vinyl เก็บได้ 450 แผ่น พื้นห้องเป็นไม้สักพม่าหน้า 6” อายุ 60+ ปี
