Why Is Your Passion Fruit Drying Up After a Good Start?
You planted your passion fruit, it established well, grew fast, and even started flowering… then suddenly the vines begin to dry up. This is a common challenge many farmers face, and it can be frustrating after such a promising start.
One major cause is diseases, especially Fusarium wilt, which attacks the roots and blocks water movement in the plant. Once infected, the plant starts wilting and eventually dries up. Another common issue is poor soil drainage, passion fruits hate waterlogged soils, and too much moisture can lead to root rot.
Pests like aphids and mites also weaken the plant by sucking sap and spreading diseases, while nutrient deficiencies leave the vine unable to sustain healthy growth and fruiting. In some cases, prolonged dry spells or irregular watering can stress the plant, causing it to dry up prematurely.
What’s the solution?
Start with disease-free seedlings, plant in well-drained soils, and avoid areas where passion fruits were previously affected by wilt. Maintain proper spraying to control pests and diseases, apply the right fertilizers, and ensure consistent watering especially during dry periods.
