Step back in time to the late 1800s when our town had a different vibe. In 1887, the L. Leotaud Saloon came to life. It proudly stood at "Bridge Corner," where a wooden walkway acted like a bridge over mucky horse-drawn roads. This unique spot earned it the nickname "Bridge Corner" because the little wooden walkway looked like a bridge, keeping patrons safe from splattering mud.
๐ปEven though it changed owners a few times, the L. Leotaud Saloon always aimed for improvement. By 1892, they had an ice house to keep refreshing treats in stock. That was a big deal back then! And in 1902, they claimed to be a first class saloon.
๐ฅSadly, a massive fire in 1903 turned everything to ashes. The building was forever altered, and a new era began. From the ashes emerged the Audrey Hotel shops, right in the same spot. Over the years, it evolved into a bustling center of commerce, housing various shops. During the 1950s and 1960s, is was lively, echoing the spirit of the original saloon in its own way. In 1981, Vermilion Office Supply opened its doors and became a community cornerstone for nearly four decades. It was a go-to spot for all things office-related and held a special place in the hearts of locals.
๐ชFast forward to 2020, and a new chapter began with Brian's Woodshop taking residence in this historic location. It feels like a full circle, as the first owner built ramps and bridges, and today's owner is deeply immersed in the world of woodworking.
๐The legacy of L. Leotaud Saloon lives on through the ever-evolving businesses that have called this spot home. It's a testament to the enduring spirit of innovation and community that defines our town's history.
