Who says you can't get a nice clean cut when the grass is a bit wet? It all comes down to having some patience and keeping one goal in mind-- AVOID CLUMPS.

Follow these suggestions when, for instance, you've had some light rain overnight but the following morning is your only window of time to mow for awhile.

1. Make sure that at least SOME time has elapsed since rainfall to allow a little drying out. If it's drenched, you'll have a hard go of it and you should just mow another time.
2. Consider raising the mower blade a notch from your normal, to reduce the amount of clippings and to reduce the amount of resistance the mower blade will be fighting.
3. WALK (OR RIDE) SLOWER. I get it, this is a chore some times and you want to get it done, but going at a slower pace gives the mower blade more opportunity to handle the denser wet topgrowth.
4. Consider putting the collection bag on the mower. I typically recommend mulching clippings, but letting the fresh clippings drop is just more material that can clump up in this situation (if you follow tip #3, you can probably still mulch!!).
5. Don't be afraid to double-cut a certain area if you notice some minor clumping start to crop up in an area that's gotten higher recent topgrowth. Mowing over them again will break up the clumping.

If the amount of clumping is beyond what you can kick away with your foot along the way here and there, or more than what you can blow away at a few spots after you're done, you should mow another time-- you either have too much grass to cut off or it's just too wet.

AVOID THOSE CLUMPS AT ALL COSTS AND YOU'LL STILL GET THAT NICE CUT! GOOD LUCK!

Chris: "Every time the lawn is looking good I feel obligated to share. All that hard work paying off!"

No need to feel obligated but I'll take a success story any day of the week!

HTC helped Chris with an overseeding project in Fall 2023 to turn a front lawn full of weeds into a more consistent turfstand that earns neighborhood respect!

Yecchhh, still so brown, tan, yellow, beige out there.

This winter has clung on and has been slow to break. In 5 years with this lawn this is the lightest green it has ever been!

BUT we're ready for Spring! Warmer temps, more sun, and plenty of rain will get things green over the next few weeks!

Have you heard of a stinzenlawn???

The first several photos are examples from my neighborhood while the last few are from the internet demonstrating (conceptually) how stunning this type of installation could be.

The term is from the Frisian (Netherlands) language and means "brick house", and refers to springtime bulbs planted WITHIN a turf lawn. In all honesty, I think this is pretty cool and has potential for a pretty stunning visual effect even if only for a few weeks.

In reality, I haven't really seen examples that are in high quality turf lawns, it seems to work best in areas that don't grow turf well (maybe under a large tree) as I suspect it'd be a bit difficult for bulbs to thrive in an already-thick lawn. Not to mention all the work planting! πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Would you ever consider doing something like this in part of your lawn? Let me know in the comments!

Hi all! Been doing plenty of hibernating and just enjoying the Eagles playoff run πŸ¦…

The snow has melted (at least for now) so it's good to see the lawn again! It won't be long before March is here and it'll be time to tune up the mowers!

Guess I can finally take advantage and put the Christmas lights away too... β˜ƒοΈ
