Hello Nature Loving Humans!!

As spring slowly creeps in, the urge to get a jump on the spring lawn and garden cleanup becomes hard to resist. But, as the night can still dip below freezing it is wise to exercise restraint at this time. The ground is not yet ready for your walking about. The tender beginnings of new grass shoots and other plants awaking for spring are not ready for your rake!

So what is the best time to start spring cleanup you ask?

Wait until it has been a week or two with above freezing temperatures before attacking your grass. If you begin to early you may find yourself doing more harm than good. Try to stay of your lawn until then. Your feet can re**rd or stop the new growth of grass. Raking to early will pull up the protective thatch. This will give your lawn a patchy look when the grass begins to grow.

So, what can you do now? You can trim last years perennials and pull up last years annuals. You can prune shrubs that have yet to bud. Trim and cut dead limbs and pick up debris.

This is a Eastern Daisy Fleabane. I took this photo from my neighbors side yard. These Native plants grow all around the northeast. They are most commonly known as the Eastern Daisy. You will see them in large blankets in fields and randomly through the natural landscape. They grow from 1' to 5' and, flower heads are white to lavender with yellow centers. I like to pick large quantities of these and, vase them for a great center peace. One of the main reasons most of you don't see these in your backyard is, they get w**d wacked down before the flower. Moral of the story, don't go w**d whack crazy before you know what you are mowing down!!

Hello fellow Facebookers. My name is Taylor Hitchcock. I am proud to announce my new business, LESLIE’S LAWN AND GARDEN! Let’s start out with the first question some of you might be asking yourself. Who is Leslie? Leslie was my Mom. If you ever needed to find my mother the first place you should look is the garden! There you would find her wearing a sundress and sunhat, no shoes and dirt from head to toe. She’d be chomping on the first ripe tomato, flicking off unwanted pests and smiling ear to ear! She is the spirit behind Leslie’s Lawn and Garden.

Although the main purpose of this page is to sell a service and a product, it will also be informational. I will post weekly (even daily) gardening tips, nature facts and more. Also feel free to post any garden or lawn questions you may have.

Under this blanket of snow, dormant plants are waiting for the arrival of spring. Which we all hope is just around the corner. Hope to hear from you soon!
