We are looking to add a member (potentially 2) to our framing crew. We get the opportunity to work on really big and complex custom homes so the work is not repetitive.

Framing experience is a plus but I’m more interested in someone’s attitude. You will obviously need to have some basic construction knowledge but we would train the right person. Must have the ability to get to work on time every day. We work in the heat and cold. We work on ladders, scaffolding and roofs so you must be comfortable with heights.

We work hard everyday but we also laugh and have fun.

Starting pay will be based on experience. I pay every Friday. There is opportunities to work up to a great wage for someone who brings it every day and improves their craft. We take a lot of pride in our work, we look for efficiency but also care a lot about the quality of our work.

Got the shell of our barn/shop project up today in Elkhart. SIP (structural insulated) panels are amazing. They go up fast, they are incredible strong and they are super insulated.

It was just too cold to function outside today so we decided to work in my basement. Got the mechanical room a little closer to being done. LP Smartpanel and Trim turns a boring mechanical room into a great looking finished space.

We try to never install pocket doors in a 2x4 wall. The pre made kits just aren’t very good. Using 2x6 timber stand studs on edge makes for a strong and straight framing assembly for the pocket doors.

Working in the cold isn’t fun but the work must go on. We had to get more window openings prepped today so we got out the heat gun. Keep the stretch tape in a warm spot until you are ready to apply it (our trailer is heated). Heat up the sill with a heat gun, apply the stretch tape to the sill. Heat up the stretch tape where you have to stretch it (don’t overheat it and melt it) and continue heating up the tape as you pull it down over the sill. You can still achieve a really nice looking finished product when the conditions aren’t great, you just have to add the step of getting out the heat gun.

The SIP (structural insulated panels) panels arrived this morning for the Elkhart barn build. Time to unload this truck and then head over to Clive to see what that job site looks like. Oh and it’s COLD!!

I was scrolling through my photo album tonight and found this great video. We framed this house a couple years ago. It had vertical paralams that carried the roof beams to create this mono pitched roof. We used R-38 SIP (Structural Insulated Panel) panels for the roof. The panels were 8’x24’ so we covered a lot of ground with each panel. Fun project!!

Building Extraordinary Homes

We have a little different approach to building a home. We physically build it!

I was incredibly frustrated with subcontractors that I hired to do the framing work on projects. They didn’t show up when they said they were going to, they were messy and the quality wasn’t what I demanded. So I made the decision to hire full-time employees. In the midst of looking for the right people I ran across some guys that were incredibly talented trim carpenters but they didn’t want to frame houses. Instead of letting them get away, I hired them to do the trim work on my projects.

We obviously can’t do everything that’s involved in the construction process, so we still use subcontractors, but the framing and trim work are done by skilled craftsman that are on my staff. The difference this had made from a quality and scheduling prospective has been beyond my wildest expectations.

So if you’re looking to build a new home or remodel and existing house give us a call and let us show you what goes into building an extraordinary home.
