We are eyeing a tropical wave in the Atlantic that is the most likely candidate to become the first Gulf hurricane of the 2022 season.

Both the pattern and the computer models strongly favor development of the wave once it enters the Caribbean, and for now the door is open for it to enter the Gulf toward the end of the month.

If your eyes cross paths with one of these computer models a showing a hurricane in the Gulf, remember this: We have no idea where this will ultimately go, assuming it does develop to begin with.

And for those of us in Texas, keep in mind that it becomes increasingly difficult for hurricanes that form in the Caribbean to reach the western Gulf as we get into October.

So for now, we gently raise your awareness that something is brewing, and we'll keep our eyes on it for you.
