Steve Myers
Retired from the University of Akron after 41 years on the faculty just as the pandemic arrived in 2020. Always an avid builder, his job and volunteering efforts did not leave much time to express that joy. He and his wife Kimberly have partnered to create a business to support this love of making. You should really see her hair bow Etsy shop, Ribbon and Spice, at etsy.com/shop/ribbon
andspice and her Pinterest at pinterest.com/ribbonandspice. The catalyst of accumulating wood tools and machines and exercising skills came when his youngest son and daughter-in-law asked if Steve could transform an ugly old brick fireplace on a bare wall into a full wall of built-ins including an elegant mantle. Steve and Kimberly's two-car garage is now the Old Dog workshop, full of tools and wood. Sadly the namesake of OldDog Woodworking, Finn the wonder dog, has passed on. Finn was our first greyhound, followed by Misty Mae and Holly. All three are now passed and we miss them. We made a fateful decision that at our ages, we could not lift infirm 70 pound dogs into our car when they become infirm as all of them did. The name remains but Indie, our 4-month-old kitten is the workshop mascott now. You can get an insight into what Steve did as an economist at the University of Akron there by seeing his professional site at econdatascience.com and his LinkedIn profile at https://www.linkedin.com/in/stevencmyers. He was a Scoutmaster for 25 years, retiring in 2017, and now serves as an Assistant Council Commissioner and webmaster for the Boy Scouts of America at the Great Trail Council.
