We might have a fun week ahead of us! Let's see what we actually get this time around!
FIRST CALL SNOWFALL FORECAST -- SUNDAY EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY
We are very closely monitoring our next weather system that could bring us snow to Ohio for the first half of the upcoming work week. Please read the entire posts as your questions will most likely be answered in the post.
WEATHER DISCUSSION --
A weather system near the Washington State Pacific coast will move into Washington State later Saturday. This low will then move southeast quickly into the Gulf of Mexico through Sunday. This low pressure will then strengthen and move northeast through the Appalachian Mountain region on Monday. Given the current track of the low pressure system, this puts parts of Ohio in the potential for heaviest axis of snow. As of now it is looking like that this weather system will likely come in two waves.
The first wave of precipitation looks to move through Monday during the day time. This will bring some snow to the Buckeye State. Another round of snow looks to move into Ohio Monday Night through Tuesday. With this round, some snow may become heavy at times, including the threat of heavy banding. We may even see some freezing rain and sleet mix in with this round over south central and southeast portions of Ohio. Because we will be dealing with cold temperatures, we are looking at higher snow ratios, which means we could see locally higher totals. In addition, this means we will likely be dealing with the powdery type snow.
WEATHER ALERT: A Winter Storm Watch has already been issued for Central, West Central, South Central, and Southwest Ohio from Sunday Evening to Tuesday afternoon for the potential for heavy snow.
SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: The heaviest snow axis is looking to cut through the center of the state. We are calling for the possibility of 6-8" possible. Locally higher and lower totals are possible. Much of Ohio looks to see 4-6" with this weather system. This is based on the last few model runs, as well as what is showing right now. The NWS forecast is also influencing our current thinking as of right now.
THE UNKNOWNS: There still remains uncertainty as to how the storm system will track, especially since this weather system is still out in the Pacific. This will ultimately have an influence on snowfall amounts when this system impacts our area.
Travel could be very hazardous Monday and Tuesday. Travel is highly discouraged. Flight delays and cancellations are likely as well. We will continue to monitor this weather system very carefully and will make any necessary adjustments as this system nears. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts and updates.
