For more than 30 years, our work in land brokerage, development, construction and consulting has placed us alongside landowners trying to navigate difficult property, access, permitting and regulatory issues.

Unfortunately, we have seen situations time and again where municipal, county, state and federal processes begin to outweigh—or simply disregard—the legitimate rights of private property owners. Reasonable regulation has its place, but it should never become a tool that allows government agencies, utilities or other large institutions to unnecessarily run over individual landowners. In our experience, that problem has grown progressively worse over the years.

What is happening to Fenn Church in Shelby County is another troubling example. Every landowner deserves to be heard, treated fairly and given meaningful consideration when a reasonable alternative exists.

Congratulations to John Rich on his appointment as Special Envoy for American Landowners, and thank you for using your position and voice to stand up for Fenn Church and landowners across the country. Private-property rights are fundamental, and they are worth defending.
