We advise to NEVER sign any type of contractual obligation until you get a written, detailed scope of work and estimate from the contractor.
Door knocking storm chasers, local and out of town chasers, typically ask for your insurance claim paperwork and will not give you their own written detailed scope of work.
Furthermore, before allowing anyone to do any work on your home, make sure the company is licensed, in particular a 2021 Alabama Roofer's License. Thank you to Ed and Marie Gardner for allowing us (DynoDry Roofing & Construction Services -- www.dynodry.com) the opportunity to replace the roof at their house in Alabaster, AL. and install a new 6 inch gutter system.
The Gardner's house already had beautiful landscaping. Here is another set of before and after pictures from a job completed by DynoDry Roofing & Construction Services,

After the tree was removed, we worked with the homeowner's insurance company, then immediately repaired the soffit/fascia/eave damage and temporarily tarped the roof to stop any further water damage.
After we replaced the roof, our customer was so satisfied with the quality of our work, and DynoDry (www.dynodry.com), she asked us to build a new, covered, screened in back porch.

When you are looking for a roofing contractor, or anything else, remember cheaper is not always better. Actually, it is rarely better.

After storms like we had the past two weekends, door-knocking, roofing solicitors ("storm chaser") may come to your door over promising ("I will get you a free roof") and under delivering (cutting corners on workmanship and quality materials).

A word of advice; nothing is free. On average, most homeowners go through two roofing projects in their lifetime. Make sure to do your due diligence and vet your roofing contractor and anyone else doing work at your house.
Buy a roof system, not just new shingles.

Ask the right questions. For example, are you licensed in the state of Alabama to do roofing?Do you have workers compensation and general liability insurance? What is your BBB rating (then verify their reply with the BBB)? What type and brand of materials do you install, and are you certified with the material manufacturer? What is your warranty and are you locally owned?
Better to be safe than sorry.
Ask the questions! OR, you could end up using a contractor like the one who did the work on this job you see in this picture. This was storm chaser work.
