HOT TIP:
Hot weather is expected in much of the Bay Area on Friday and Saturday. TODAY is a great day to add supplemental water if needed. If you water in the morning, consider an extra session later today, especially for new landscapes/plantings. Or simply, add a few minutes to your schedule today. Most of your heat-loving plants easily adapt to hot weather but sometimes the first big jump in temps can stress all your plants to some degree. Water should be sufficient to pe*****te into the soil and reach the roots.
Watering AHEAD of the heat helps plants cope, much like hydrating before a race. Signs of insufficient water include wilting, yellowing, or leaf drop. Check soil moisture to distinguish these symptoms from overwatering. Your soil should be moist but not soggy.
