Hi Folks! How are your Hydrangeas looking? Here in the Bay Area, many of my gardens have big beautiful flowers covering the plants. It took me a while to learn the differences in how to prune Hydrangeas, I grew up with remontant Hydrangeas... it did not matter how or when they were pruned, we cut them all the way to the ground in Fall. They always shot up with big beautiful blooms the next year! Since then, I've learned about Mopheads/Lacecaps/Oakleaf pruning vs. PGs and H. arborescens.
M/L/O bloom on old wood, and PG/H.a bloom on new wood. That makes a big difference in how and when they are pruned!
If your Hydrangeas aren't blooming well, one possibility is to make sure you're pruning them correctly, and fertilizing at the right time with a quality fertilizer.
Happy Gardening!
