In our on-going "Inside BGC" series take a closer look at the dedication and attention to detail that goes into each individual project by recognizing the talented people who have helped make Baldwin General Contracting, Inc. an industry leader throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Every building takes on a unique meaning to the people involved in making a project come to life. Daniel Walsh would know. He grew up in one. A native of Ohio by way of Pennsylvania, the future superintendent for Baldwin can vividly recall the impact that seeing and feeling quality and craftsmanship work come alive left on him at a very young age.
βWe had a 4,000 square foot house built by an Amish man named Jacob,β Daniel began.
βHe would show up in a horse and buggy with a wooden tape measure that folded up. He had a hammer, a square, and a handsaw. He had all hand tools from chisels to files. I spent that summer and days after school watching him. I remember riding my bike from our rental to the house. I learned so much each dayβ¦I felt we did this together, I still had those feelings and it stuck with me.β
Now heading into his third year in his role at Baldwin, Daniel is continuing to learn each step along the way while equally leaving his own mark on builds from the Port of Newport to currently overseeing the ground-up construction of the new fire station in Eddyville, Oregon . In this latest edition of βInside BGCβ, Daniel takes time to reflect on making the transition from residential to commercial building, the value of relationships, becoming attached to projects, and his personal focus on being a bridge from Baldwin to surrounding communities.
