This week, Carver Companies joined Aprojects Americas and Advance Albany County Alliance to break ground on a major expansion of Aprojects’ U.S. operations at the Port of Coeymans.

The $7.9 million investment includes a new 75,000-square-foot logistics and staging facility and a 160-ton mobile crane, further strengthening the Port’s capabilities to support complex cargo handling and specialized transportation projects around the world.

As Carver Companies Founder and Chairman Carver Laraway shared at the ceremony, “This project is a great example of what strong partnerships can accomplish. Aprojects brings international business opportunities, Carver provides the infrastructure and facilities, and Albany County and its economic development partners help create an environment that supports continued investment.”

The October edition of WorkBoat magazine features Carver Marine Steel Works and our tugboat, the Mackenzie Rose, on the cover of its shipyards issue! The feature, “Haul Out: U.S. Investment in Vessel Hoists Expands Capacity of American Shipyards,” highlights our 820-ton Marine Travelift and its role in expanding our shipyard’s capabilities.

Our team successfully completed an ABS-required drydocking of the Mackenzie Rose, the largest and heaviest tug ever handled at our Coeymans, NY facility. The project included hull inspections and gauging, steel repairs, HVAC upgrades, a reduction gear rebuild, stateroom refinishing, fender repairs, and blasting and painting.

As General Manager Phil Gallo shared with WorkBoat, “We’ve lifted barges that are in the 800-metric-ton range, but the Mackenzie being lightship around 520 with a shorter keel, it was the largest tug hauled to date.”

To accommodate the tug’s unique dimensions and lifting requirements, the team utilized our versatile lift frame in combination with conventional boat straps, demonstrating the expertise and problem-solving that go into complex marine projects.

Another project successfully completed at Carver Marine Steel Works!

Our team recently completed dry-docking and preventative maintenance on a customer’s deck barge, followed by a successful launch back into the water. With the work complete, the barge is ready for its next assignment.

From maintenance to launch, our team has the expertise and capabilities to keep marine equipment working and moving.
