❄️ Cold Weather Tip: Prevent Frozen Pipes! ❄️

When temperatures drop, frozen pipes can turn into a big (and expensive) headache. A few simple steps now can save you a lot of trouble later:

✅ Let faucets drip slightly during extreme cold
✅ Open cabinet doors under sinks to let warm air circulate
✅ Insulate exposed pipes in basements, garages, and crawl spaces
✅ Disconnect outdoor hoses and shut off exterior water lines
✅ Keep your thermostat set consistently, even overnight

If you notice low water pressure, strange noises, or no water at all, your pipes may already be freezing—don’t wait!

Ugh—frozen pipes are the worst 😬 Here’s how to tell if that’s what you’re dealing with (and when to act fast):

🚨 Common signs your pipes are frozen

• No water or very low flow when you turn on a faucet
(especially on the cold side first)
• Only a trickle comes out, or it stops completely
• Frost or condensation on exposed pipes (under sinks, basement, crawl space, garage)
• Strange smells from the drain (water is trapped behind ice)
• Bulging or cracked pipes — this is a BIG red flag
• You hear whistling, banging, or clanking when turning water on

🧊 Where pipes usually freeze

• Exterior walls
• Unheated spaces (garage, attic, crawl space, basement)
• Under kitchen or bathroom sinks on outside walls
• Hose bibs / outdoor faucets

⚠️ Important: Frozen ≠ Burst (yet)

Most damage happens when the pipe starts to thaw, not while it’s frozen. If you suspect freezing:

• Turn the faucet slightly on (relieves pressure)
• Do NOT use open flames to heat pipes
• Keep cabinet doors open to let warm air circulate

🔥 Safe ways to thaw (if you see the pipe)

• Hair dryer (start closest to the faucet and work back)
• Space heater in the room (not touching anything)
• Warm towels wrapped around the pipe

📞 Call us immediately if:

• You see a crack or leak
• Water suddenly returns and you hear dripping
• You can’t locate the frozen section
• You suspect pipes inside walls are frozen

Extreme cold weather is approaching. Please remember during extreme cold, maintain indoor temperatures above 55°F, let faucets drip, open cabinet doors to expose pipes to warm air, and ensure outdoor hoses are disconnected.
