These two pieces were built for the same client, and both started with something worth keeping.

The drawer fronts under the washer and dryer were made by his brother nearly 20 years ago. Rather than replacing them, I built the new cabinet around them and gave them another chapter.

The kitchen cabinet started with an old glass door saved from one of his former properties. The wood surrounding it came from his family farm.

Different rooms, different pieces, but the same idea: new furniture doesn’t have to erase what came before it.

Sometimes the most interesting thing I can build is a place for an old story to keep living.

I don’t often make cabinets, but every once in a while I’ll take on a project that interests me. This client wanted to incorporate an old window from one of their former properties into their kitchen renovation.

I’m building this cabinet around it, and I love the history still hiding in the glass. These old stickers have to be removed, so I figured I’d share them before they disappear.

He contributes absolutely nothing to the build and still ends up in every glamour shot. Happy 4th of July weekend!

It feels good to finally be putting the finishing touches on the shop.

We went with ambrosia maple for the trim, and it’s looking right at home in the space. The base is down, and the windows are next.

Bit by bit, the shop is becoming as considered as the pieces that leave it.

Hey all — I’m looking for a little help sourcing materials for an upcoming project.

I’ve been tasked with making some very sculptural pieces and I’m searching for trees that have been down for 1–5 years. Ideally, I’m looking for branches that have had time to air-dry but have been off the ground — either stacked in a pile or still hanging in the tree.

If I could find Sycamore, that would be a dream (those curvy branches are incredible), but I know that might be a long shot. I’m located in Jackson, MI, and am looking in the surrounding area as well.

If you have, or know of, any downed trees or large branch piles, please let me know. Thanks so much to anyone willing to help or spread the word — I really appreciate it.
