H**pcrete - this highly insulating, fire-resistant, low-energy input wall system is set to revolutionize residential design and building. Australia has been building with it for 20 years - Canada and other nations are getting on board. Kudos to the green home designers and builders here have begun to organize to get this remarkably sustainable, renewable and low-cost material certified as a residential building component:

What are the new trends in residential construction? We've all probably heard "tiny houses" and "aging in place" home design are hot searches. Where are most of us in these trends?

According to articles in Wikipedia, about 63% of Americans are in homes they own or they are buying - more than most people in other countries of the world. And what did our homes cost us? "For homeowners with middle-range household incomes, ranging from $40,000 to $60,000, the median home value was $112,000, while the median size was 1,700 square feet (160 m2) and the median year of construction was 1970." Our purchase stake - not counting mortgage expense - was around $66/square foot.

How does that compare to newly constructed homes? The median price of home construction contracts - not including lot and utility costs - is about $145/square foot. The median price of a manufactured "tiny house" is $290/square foot.

Where's the good news here? Your own home! The smart money is on "loving the one you're with." Dramatic improvements in home energy performance - and appearance - are affordable transformations. Call us for a FREE consultation on your' green dreams for your home. We have designs to make them real.

We've all heard of these hot new trends in residential architecture - "tiny houses" and "aging in place" design. Where do most of us fit into the picture?

According to Wikipedia articles on home ownership and income in the U.S, about 63% of Americans own or are buying the home they live in. For homeowners with middle-range household incomes, ranging from $40,000 to $60,000, the median home value was $112,000 while the median size was 1,700 square feet (160 m2) - so about $66/square foot - and the median year of construction was 1970.

The current median price of contractor-built homes is around $145/square foot - not including lot cost or utilities. The median price of a newly manufactured '"tiny home" is twice that - around $290/square foot. Plainly, most of us are priced out of these housing options.

Where's the good news in this? The home you already live in.

Green home building design can blueprint dramatic improvements in the performance and appearance of your existing home. Call us for a FREE consultation of upgrading actions you can take to "love the one (home) you're with." We are experienced builders - and "home counselors."
