Adding the right amount of moisture when backfilling underground utilities helps the soil particles rearrange and pack together more tightly, allowing the backfill to reach the required density. Too dry, and you may struggle to get compaction. Too wet, and you can end up with pumping, unstable material, and another set of problems. The goal is to get the soil near its optimum moisture content and compact it in the proper lifts.

It was truly an honor for us to be part of the new addition to the Sagebrush Church main campus. Projects like this are especially meaningful because they’re about more than pipes, ductwork, and infrastructure—they’re about helping build spaces where people will gather, connect, and serve the lord & community for years to come. We’re proud of the hard work and craftsmanship our Plumbing, HVAC, and Utility departments brought to this project. Grade it right. Compact it tight. Then bring on the blacktop. 👷‍♂️🚜

Once the final road grade is established, manholes have to be raised or lowered so the lid sits flush with the finished pavement. Too high and you’ve built a speed bump. Too low and you’ve created a pothole with a cast-iron lid.
A good adjustment means:
🔧 Proper elevation
📏 Smooth transitions
🚗 A better ride
💪 And a structure that can handle years of traffic
