A simple upgrade that makes future maintenance a whole lot easier 👌

Recently replaced a home's water filter system and made a couple of upgrades while we were there.

Along with the new filter, we installed a dedicated shutoff valve and added a union fitting for quick disconnects in the future.

Why does that matter?

Without a shutoff valve, even a simple filter replacement can turn into a bigger job than it needs to be. And with a union in place, future servicing or replacements can be done much faster without cutting into pipes.

It's one of those small details that homeowners don't usually see, but it can save a lot of time, hassle, and money down the road.

Sometimes the best plumbing upgrades aren't the flashy ones—they're the ones that make everything easier years from now.

That slow gurgle in every drain at the same time

If your sinks, tub, and toilet in Albuquerque all start making that weird gurgling sound together… don’t ignore it 😅

This is often an early sign of a main sewer line restriction. When the main line starts clogging, air gets trapped and pushes back through multiple fixtures in the house.

What you can try:
Check if it’s happening in more than one drain. If yes, avoid heavy water use for a bit and don’t keep flushing repeatedly.

If it starts getting worse or you notice backups in any fixture… it could be a sewer line issue.

You might need a sewer line repair or proper inspection before it turns into a full blockage.

Ever wake up one morning and catch a smell in the house that just won’t go away no matter how much cleaning gets done? 😅

Most of the time… it’s deeper than the toilet itself.

In this case, an Albuquerque homeowner called J&J Plumbing LLC because there was a strong sewer smell filling up one of the rooms and they couldn’t figure out where it was coming from.

We got into the crawl space and found the real problem
A collapsed 4-inch cast iron sewer pipe had backed everything up underneath the home.

We ended up cutting out around 20 feet of the old cast iron, replacing it with new 4-inch PVC, giving it proper grade, and getting everything sealed back up the right way.

No more smell. No more backup issues. Problem solved ✅

A lot of older homes around Albuquerque still have aging cast iron sewer lines, so if you’re noticing persistent sewer odours, slow drains, or weird gurgling sounds… don’t ignore it too long.

It’s likely jammed.

Turn it off, press the reset button, and try manually turning it with an Allen key.

That slow drip that won’t stop

Drip… drip… drip… especially at night 😅

Most of the time, it’s just a worn washer or cartridge.

What you can try:
Turn off the water and replace the worn part.

If it keeps dripping after that, something else is going on. You might need a tap replacement.

That’s usually a worn flapper not sealing properly.
