​We recently transformed this backyard from a drainage nightmare into a functional outdoor oasis. The goal: create a relaxing, simple space for ci**rs and fireside evenings.

The best of both worlds: Budget-friendly meets natural beauty.

​We just wrapped up these natural stone steppers, and the results speak for themselves. Steppers are a rock-solid solution for adding clean lines and easy access to any part of your yard. We can’t wait to see this finished look once the mulch and plantings are in!

Bluestone Step Repair: Before & After! 🙌🏼

​These steps were over 50% loose with failing mortar. Our team stepped in to reset the stones, deep clean, and repoint the entire entryway—all in just one day! ⏱️

​Why does masonry fail? Here are the 4 biggest culprits:

​🧂 Salt & Ice Melt: The #1 killer. These chemicals eat away at concrete and mortar joints over time.

​🏗️ Weak Mortar Mixes: In our region, using a high-strength Type S mortar is non-negotiable. Avoid "sandy" mixes that crumble under pressure.

​🛠️ Poor Installation: Skimping on concrete thickness or ignoring drainage leads to disaster. A proper footer is the foundation of every long-lasting project.

​❄️ Freeze-Thaw Cycles: Water gets behind stones, freezes, expands, and causes cracking. Proper drainage and slope are your best defense against hydrostatic pressure.

​The site might be a little messy while we wait for the ground to dry, but the craftsmanship is crystal clear! We are incredibly happy with how the stone veneer and retaining wall turned out on this multi-phase build.

We've been busy here at NARS Masonry

Building retaining walls and piers thru the winter months. As we all look forward to the spring time, we still have work to do, year round!
