What can I do to help prevent frozen water pipes in my home?
1.Allow hot and cold water to run a thin stream the width of a pencil lead.
2.Open cabinet doors under sinks to expose pipes to heat within the house.
3.Wrap exposed exterior pipes and faucets with foam insulation or newspaper.
4.Remove garden hoses from outside faucets. 5.Freeze sensors are required on all sprinkler systems to keep them from operating during icy weather.
6.Cover all openings around the foundation.
If planning to be out-of-town for an extended time, turn off the water to the house and open faucets to reduce pressure.
2. What should I do if one or more of my water pipes becomes frozen or I don’t have water?
Try your best to defrost area with space heaters, and running other fixtures in the same room, if pipes are accessible heat tape may be applied if electricity is available. If there is a freeze break or your afraid of a pipe bursting, turn off water to house and relieve pressure, turn on once temps are above freezing.
3. What should I do to protect my outside water spicket/faucet from freezing?
