Architecture day off… but apparently I still end up drawing. 🎨

Painting trains the same skills I use in architecture every day: observation, proportion, composition, light, color, and patience.

It teaches me to slow down, really look, and understand how individual elements work together to create the whole picture.

For me, drawing and painting aren’t separate from architecture. They strengthen the way I see space—and the way I design it.

Your house may not need more square footage. It may need better planning.

A thoughtful layout can improve circulation, storage, natural light, furniture placement, and how every room is actually used—without automatically making the house bigger.

More space costs more to build, finish, furnish, heat, and maintain. Better design makes the square footage you already have work harder.

One of the most expensive phrases in construction?

Building permits take time. 😅

Submitting the drawings is a big milestone—but it’s not the finish line. Review, comments, revisions, and approvals are all part of the process.

Every corner costs money.

More corners can mean more foundation, framing, roofing, flashing, waterproofing, materials, and labor.

That doesn’t mean good architecture should be boring. It means complexity should earn its place.

Same site. Very different outcome. 😅

You can build without an architect… but “it technically works” and “this is exactly what I wanted” are not always the same thing.

Sometimes good design is the difference between just a house and a home that actually makes sense.
