Spring has sprung and the warm weather seems to be here to stay and that means that it is grass cutting season!

This spring and summer, remember to blow lawn clippings AWAY from the outdoor unit and turn off your air conditioning while cutting the grass to prevent clippings from being pulled into the condenser. Air flow is important not only for efficiency, but also for the overall health and longevity of your system. Excess heat can cause compressor burnout, overheated capacitors, high compressor head pressure, and more that all can lead to costly repairs.

Also make sure to be careful with weedeaters around your outdoor unit. Refrigeration copper is very thin and even the plastic line on your trimmer can cause a leak. You also run the risk of hitting your 240 volt electrical supply which can be extremely dangerous.

Replaced a 46-year-old Sears Kenmore furnace today with a new high-efficiency Concord from Allied Air International.

This vintage unit was among the first condensing furnaces on the market in the late 1970s and is certainly one of the more unique pieces of equipment we've removed.

This is why routine system maintenance is SO SO SO IMPORTANT! Today we went to a first time customers home that was having an issue with a strange smell in the house. As you can see in the pictures below, the customer’s flue pipe had completely deteriorated and was allowing the furnace exhaust to vent out directly below the living space.

We made a quick repair by attaching some new flue pipe to the chimney liner and sealed the pe*******on with furnace cement (not pictured). We followed that up with a carbon monoxide test and then went over everything with the customer before heading out to our next call.

Situations like this are what make annual maintenance and tune ups essential. This was a situation that could have been deadly for the homeowner, her children, and their pets. I shudder to think what may have happened if they dismissed their concerns or procrastinated getting their heating equipment checked out.

Please at a bare minimum make sure that you have carbon monoxide detectors in your home in every bedroom and at least one on every floor AND TEST THEM REGULARLY!

Today we replaced a 32 year old 40 gallon Reliance water heater with a brand new Bradford White Defender. While we were there, we also changed the old soft copper tubing on the appliances gas line and replaced it with a flexible stainless steel gas connector AND replaced the gas shut off to bring the work into code compliance for the customer. After a quick check for gas and water leaks we were out the door leaving behind only a quality install and a satisfied customer… and maybe a forgotten tool or two.

We had an inducer motor change out and a cleaning on a very dirty 17 year old Burnham boiler today. After about 2 and a half hours the burners and combustion chamber were free of rust and soot build up, the heat exchanger was brushed off, water and gas pressure were dialed in, the new motor was installed, and the outside was wiped free of dust and cobwebs. Yearly system maintenance combined with quality parts and quality service from Keystone Heating and Air will ensure that this system keeps running for years to come.
