: Give your patio a deep clean before winter.

We recommend giving your patio a good deep cleaning in the spring and fall. After you clear everything off your patio, be sure to pull any weeds growing in the joints and sweep away all debris. Now, you’re ready for the cleaning process!

> Generously hose down the pavers.
> Add a mixture of mild dish soap and warm water – or a specialize paver cleaner if you have areas that need extra attention.
> Scrub with a stiff-bristle brush or push broom – be sure to avoid wire and steel brushes.
> Thoroughly rinse the patio with a hose before the cleaner dries.

At this point, you may want to re-sand your joints if you notice bare areas. You may also need to seal your patio if it has been three years since that was last done.

Should you apply mulch in the fall?

: Mulching in the fall is beneficial for most properties.

If your flowerbeds still have a three-inch layer of mulch, you don’t need to add mulch in the fall. However, if you’re short on mulch, adding a thick layer can help protect perennials and root systems in harsh temperatures.

Fall Mulching in Three Simple Steps:
✅ Measure your current mulch. If it’s three inches deep, there is no need to add more.

✅ Apply mulch after the first hard frost but before the ground freezes solid (typically late-October to mid-November in Ohio).

✅ Avoid placing mulch around plant stems and tree trunks; keep mulch three inches away.
