Hey Solar Owner 👋
Did you know a cloud of dust from the Sahara just traveled over 5,000 miles... only to land on your solar panels?
Yep — a massive plume of Saharan dust swept through Florida, Puerto Rico, and the Gulf this week, and solar systems across the region are getting coated. Here's what you should know:
▪️ The dust started hitting South Florida around June 4
▪️ By June 5, panels were visibly affected
▪️ Add some rain, and now we’ve got baked-on grime that will reduce your system’s performance
▪️ Another plume is expected early next week — so it’s not over yet
Bottom line: Dust (like ash from wildfires) can significantly impact solar output. If you're noticing a dip in production on your monitoring app, it might be time for a quick clean — but do it safely:
🧼 Safe Solar Cleaning Tips:
✅ Use a soft-bristle brush with a hose (from the ground if you can)
✅ Skip harsh chemicals — no ammonia
✅ Clean early morning or evening (never spray hot panels)
✅ 1–2 cleanings per year is usually enough... unless the Sahara decides to visit again
Whether you're a homeowner, installer, or solar advocate: keep your panels clean, your system efficient, and your customers informed.
Don't let a little desert dust sneak in and steal your sunshine. 🌞
Use this weekend to check in and educate others — because clean panels = happy production.
