It’s been a chilly start to the lawn season, for sure! Maybe July will be amazing? 🙏
On any given year, Anchorage typically sees the first 60 degree day of the season around May 13th. That certainly hasn't been the case this year, as the warmest we've been is 57°.
It still doesn't look likely that we'll hit 60 before the end of the month, making this year one of the latest years to hit 60°.
1973 takes the winner for seeing the latest 60 degree day on record. While I don't think we'll hit it before the end of the month, as the calendar turns the page to June, we should hit in the first few days of the month. We'll have to wait and see, but this year has been quite an interesting year.
While we did manage to hit 57 degrees twice this season, it is the 2nd coldest spring high on record, with the 55° in 1971 being the coldest spring high for Anchorage. We may try to break that later this week, but it'll be hard with some areas holding onto cloud cover and rain back in the forecast.
