CEOs from Alaska Power Association members Golden Valley Electric Assn., Matanuska Electric Association, Chugach Electric, and Homer Electric Association, Inc. took part in this important meeting with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. It's always a good day when Alaska's electric utilities can share their stories with a cabinet member!

A huge thanks to Alaska Alaska Energy Authority for organizing it and for Sen. Dan Sullivan's work on energy issues and his participation in this meeting.

Big news from APA member Matanuska Electric Association! After more than 45 years in the natural gas and electric industries, MEA CEO Tony Izzo announced his retirement. Soon to fill the role of CEO will be Clay Koplin, the current CEO of Cordova Electric Cooperative.

Congratulations to both Tony and Clay! It's a very exciting APA member news day!

***MEA Announces CEO Retirement and Leadership Transition***

After more than a decade of leadership at MEA and 45 years in the natural gas and electric utility industries, MEA CEO Tony Izzo has announced he will retire from the electric cooperative next spring.

Since joining MEA in 2012 and becoming CEO in 2016, Tony has helped guide the cooperative through significant growth and a rapidly changing energy landscape while remaining deeply committed to our members, employees and the communities we serve.

As part of this leadership transition, the MEA Board of Directors has selected Clay Koplin to become MEA’s next CEO, effective January 7, 2027. Clay brings nearly 20 years of experience leading Cordova Electric Cooperative, along with extensive technical, utility and Alaska energy leadership experience.

Tony and Clay will work together in the coming months to support a smooth transition and continued service to MEA’s members.

We are incredibly grateful for Tony’s leadership and service to MEA and look forward to welcoming Clay to the cooperative.

Alaska Power Association was honored to host Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Commissioner Lindsay See at our office today for a roundtable discussion on Alaska energy issues.

From hydropower to natural gas to rural energy, the meeting covered a lot of ground and offered a chance for a group of APA's electric utility members to tell their stories and convey important information to federal officials.

A big thank you goes to Commissioner See and her staff and Sen. Murkowski and her staff for participating in the roundtable.
