Been looking for a "right sized" roller compactor for a little while now.

Been keeping my eye on these Volvo SD45B units for a couple of years.

I still miss my very first roller, the Bomag 124D, just for it's toughness, versatility, and the fact that I only paid $17,500 for it nearly new in 2001!!!

The Volvo is a little more substantial than the Bomag, weighing twice as much and with a 6-inch wider drum, but I think it will fit right in with the rest of the fleet, and it sure has been earning its keep on some of our larger projects.

New detached garage and ADU had a much lower driveway than the main house.

Existing house driveway was already steep with the propensity to “yeet”unexpected guests and delivery vans off of it and into the woods during winter days with questionable traction.

We solved two problems at once with this retaining wall constructed of 5,000 pound precast concrete blocks from our friends at AS&G.

Drainage system behind wall. ✅
Geogrid reinforcement between rows. ✅
Compacted structural fill behind wall. ✅
Some added safety for cars coming down upper driveway. ✅

After a little grading and paving, this one will sparkle!!!

Out with the old, in with the new.

Old scales, decks and foundation supports removed.

Deleterious soils replaced with compacted NFS structural fill.

New supports and wash out slabs installed.

Ramps filled, shaped and paved.

Just waiting for the new scale decks and this heavy truck scale will be back weighing heavy things.

Another great project for a great client.

We love a challenge, and this project had a few!

Removed the old, non-functional truck scales, including foundations.

Prepped site for new concrete foundations and scale installation.

The old scales may not have worked, but not for lack of structural integrity. The concrete decking was poured in and around the structural steel and had plenty of rebar.

The concrete footings and stem walls were massive, deep and had a ton of rebar. Fought us every step of the way, but we got it.

Then prepped the site, established clean bottom of hole, installed geotextile and structural NFS Type-II gravel.

The design also called for 4-inches of 60-psi rigid board foam insulation beneath the new structural footings.

Now the concrete footings will be poured and we’ll be back to prep for wash out and approach slabs.

Older home.
Small lot.
Tight trees.
Overhead power lines.
Very limited access.

Needed the smaller machines.

Not one, but two failed septic systems.

Concrete septic tank, log crib, concrete cesspool.
All needed to be removed/decommissioned.

Installed a new Advantex system due to almost zero available space and other setback restrictions that eliminated the option of a conventional system.

Site looks better than when we got here and now has a proper system with a new plastic forest.

Crew killed it on this one. ❤️

Got the 2020 Hitachi 160 back out in the dirt today. She’s been resting since November. Felt good to get the rust off for a technical hillside dig.
