Annapolis is more than a destination. It is a community built around people, places, and locally owned businesses that give our city its character.
When visitors come to Annapolis, they don't simply visit a landmark. They walk our streets. They dine in our restaurants. They shop in our stores. They hire our guides and services. They experience the waterfront through the businesses that surround it.

Tourism brings more than 𝟲.𝟴 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 to Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, generating approximately $𝟰.𝟭 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, $𝟰𝟱𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗲𝘀, and supporting 𝟮𝟲,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿-𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀.

When construction, road closures, restricted access, or confusing pedestrian routes make it harder for customers to reach a business, the impact can ripple outward:
𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 → 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 → 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 → 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 → 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘀 → 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.
And research consistently demonstrates the power of keeping dollars local: approximately $𝟲𝟴 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 $𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, helping circulate money among local employees, suppliers, service providers and other businesses.

We understand that infrastructure improvements take time. We also believe that protecting access, communicating clearly, maintaining visibility, and actively supporting businesses during disruptive projects are essential parts of responsible city planning.

Let's make sure that as we build for the future, we don't unintentionally undermine the businesses that make people want to come here in the first place.
