One of our jobs this week.

We removed and replaced this 58-foot by 9-foot driveway along with two separate 15-foot by 3-foot sidewalks using premium 4,000 PSI concrete with fiber mesh reinforcement throughout. The driveway and sidewalks were installed at no less than 5 inches thick, with additional thickness provided at the driveway apron to better withstand vehicle traffic.

To correct years of settlement, we raised the driveway nearly 5 inches to bring it back to the proper grade. We also installed 4-inch semi-solid PVC pipe beneath the driveway to carry the downspout water away, eliminating runoff across the driveway that was causing erosion and creating potential ice hazards during the winter months.

This project was completed in just two days. Day one consisted of demolition, excavation, grading, and forming. Day two consisted of pouring and finishing approximately 12 yards of concrete.

As with every project, proper base preparation, grading, drainage, concrete thickness, and quality materials are what help create a finished product built to last.

This pool deck may only be approximately 14’ x 6’, but it came with its own unique challenges.

The existing concrete had settled significantly, cracked, and begun to surface-scale. With only a 3-foot-wide gate providing access to the backyard, there was no way to get equipment to the work area. The entire deck had to be saw cut, broken up with a hand-operated jackhammer, and removed by hand.

Another challenge was the size of the project itself. At only about 1.5 yards of concrete, it was well below the typical 5-yard minimum required by most ready-mix concrete suppliers. Rather than forcing the customer to pay for several yards of unused concrete, we mixed and poured the concrete on-site using a pull-behind gas-powered concrete mixer, providing a much more cost-effective solution.

The new pool deck was installed 4–5 inches thick using 4,000 PSI concrete, with rebar doweled into the existing concrete for added strength and stability.

Every project presents different challenges, but finding efficient and affordable solutions for our customers is what we do best. No matter the obstacle, we find a way to get the job done correctly while keeping the customer’s best interests in mind.

Driveway Replacement & Widening

This week we removed and replaced this 38-foot by 10-foot driveway and widened it to 11 feet for additional parking space and improved usability. Due to years of settlement, we also raised the driveway and sidewalk back to the proper elevations.

After demolition, grading, and forming, we brought in and compacted a truckload of CR-6 crush and run to create a solid foundation. We then poured the new driveway using 4,000 PSI concrete with fiber mesh reinforcement, properly spaced control joints, and a broom finish for durability and traction. Steel dowels were drilled into the foundation where needed for additional support.

Completed in just two days.

As stated in every one of our project posts, all photos are taken prior to landscaping.

Here are just a few examples of completed projects after we returned to add topsoil, seed, and mulch where needed. Landscaping can never be completed the same day the concrete is poured, as walking on or working around fresh concrete could damage the finished product.

Once the concrete has had adequate time to cure, we return to clean up around the edges, add topsoil, seed disturbed areas, and install mulch where appropriate. It’s a small extra step we take as a courtesy to our customers to help leave the project looking clean, finished, and ready to enjoy.

One of our concrete projects completed this week.

This week we removed and replaced this 55-foot driveway, widening it from 10 feet to 11 feet to provide additional parking space and improved usability. We also removed and replaced the 30-foot front sidewalk and installed a new 6-inch concrete step.

Day one consisted of demolition, excavation, forming, and base preparation. We installed and compacted a truckload of CR-6 crush and run to create a solid foundation for the new concrete.

On day two, we poured the driveway, sidewalk, step, and apron using a premium 4,000 PSI concrete mix containing 35% slag cement, air entrainment for freeze-thaw durability, water reducer for improved strength and workability, and monofilament fiber mesh reinforcement throughout the mix.

The driveway and sidewalk were installed at no less than 5 inches thick, while the apron was poured at 6 inches thick to better withstand the additional stress from vehicle traffic entering and exiting the roadway.

The quality of a concrete project starts long before the concrete arrives. Proper excavation, base preparation, compaction, concrete thickness, and the quality of the concrete mix itself all play a major role in creating a finished product that is built to last.

Another concrete project completed.

This week, we removed a failing 30’ x 12’ rear patio and replaced it with a new 30’ x 14’ concrete patio designed to perform properly for years to come.

One of the biggest issues with the original patio was improper drainage. We corrected the slope to direct water away from the home while also expanding the usable outdoor living space by an additional 2 feet in width.

The new patio was installed using 4,000 PSI concrete at no less than 5 inches thick and reinforced by doweling steel into the foundation wall for additional support. Control joints were properly planned and installed, with an additional saw-cut control joint being added tomorrow morning to ensure no concrete panel exceeds our preferred dimensions.

Please note that the exposed foundation area visible in the photos is temporary. The home is scheduled to be re-sided at a later date, and the siding will be brought down to properly cover the exposed foundation as part of that future renovation.

Proper drainage, proper preparation, and proper joint placement are all critical to the longevity of any concrete installation. Taking shortcuts today often leads to costly repairs tomorrow.

Thank you to another customer for trusting us with their project.

Another driveway transformed the right way.

This project started as a failing 10’ x 40’ driveway that was cracked, too thin, settling, and sloped back toward the garage, allowing water intrusion and creating ongoing drainage issues. The garage floor itself was also severely cracked.

Over the course of just two days, we completely removed the old driveway and rebuilt it from the ground up. The new driveway was widened from 11 feet at one end to 18 feet at the other, creating additional parking space and allowing for two-car parking. We also corrected the grading to ensure positive drainage away from the home and garage.

To further protect the property, we installed an NDS trench drain system across the garage entrance to capture stormwater before it reaches the garage. The system also collects the downspout discharge and exits to daylight.

Construction details:
✔️ 4,000 PSI concrete
✔️ No less than 5” thick throughout
✔️ Fiber mesh reinforced
✔️ 4-5” compacted CR8 crush-and-run base
✔️ Properly pitched for drainage
✔️ New front sidewalk installed and raised to porch level to eliminate a tripping hazard

Day 1: Demolition, grading, stone base, drainage installation, and forming.
Day 2: Concrete placement and finishing.

For today’s project, we completed a full concrete replacement featuring a 40-foot by 10-foot driveway along with a custom 12-foot tapering front sidewalk and porch designed for improved home accessibility and additional usable outdoor space for tables and chairs if desired.

The previous 4.5-foot by 11-foot front stoop was extremely limited and unusable for the homeowner’s needs, so we were able to completely remove and haul away the existing concrete and replace everything with 4,000 PSI concrete at no less than 5 inches thick throughout, reinforced with fiber mesh and steel dowels tied directly into the home for long-term structural integrity.

This project utilized exactly 10 yards of concrete and was completed in a fast two-day turnaround time — day one consisting of demolition, haul-away, forming, and custom shaping, followed by the concrete pour on day two.
