I love upcycling almost anything; decor, furniture, whatever makes you happy. But somewhere while obsessing over mid-century modern this year, I turned into one of those purists who thinks painting an MCM piece should be a felony.

Well. I’ve sinned.

Found this pair of Hekman end tables at a thrift store for $30… gorgeous bones, tragic finish. I went full on villain: matte black paint, brass hardware polished back to life. And now I can’t stop staring at them like I didn’t just commit a crime against good taste.

Purists, I see you typing. Save it. $30 and a paintbrush will make a sinner out of anyone…

We’ve been busy!

Teak & Tartan, booth CH77, allllll the way in the back of Kolectic Treasures, just got a proper refresh; new walls, new layout, new inventory, a few new pieces that stopped us cold when we found them, and a banner that finally makes it official.

We’re not finished. We never are. But we’re ready.

And the timing couldn’t be better.

A little bit MCM, a little bit hunt club, a lot of things that belonged to people with excellent taste and are now waiting for you.

Teak & Tartan was born from a simple but deeply held conviction: good things deserve good homes, and the best things have already lived a little.

Located at the very back, in booth CH77, inside Kolectic Treasures in Anniston, Alabama, we’re a curated vintage and mid-century modern booth with a point of view…and, let’s be honest, a permanent work in progress. We’re always sourcing, always rearranging, always finding that one piece that makes everything else make sense. If you visited last week, come back. Something’s changed.

Our eye gravitates toward teak and walnut, crystal and silver, hunt prints and portrait art, the occasional ceramic that stops you cold, and the kind of eclectic object that makes a room feel like it belongs to someone with very specific and very excellent taste. We sit at the intersection of MCM cool and Ralph Lauren warmth — pieces that feel equally at home in a hunt club library and a well-appointed modern living room. Nothing here arrived by accident. Everything earned its place.

We refinish, we restore, and we curate. But we never over-explain. The pieces speak for themselves.

Presiding over all of it is a mallard duck in a tartan suit with a bourbon in one hand, a cigar in the other, and opinions about furniture he is not afraid to share. His standards are high. He’s working on his patience.
