Veneer vs Saw Logs and Why Good Forest Management Matters

Veneer logs are selected for exceptional quality: straight grain, minimal defects, and consistency that allows them to be sliced into thin sheets for furniture, cabinetry, architectural millwork, and more.

Saw logs, meanwhile, are processed into lumber for a wide range of building and manufacturing applications.

What’s interesting is how much of that quality is shaped long before harvest. Forest management decisions, species selection, spacing, and overall stand health all influence whether a tree eventually becomes standard lumber or premium veneer material.
