⚡ATTENTION!!!

Fogg HVAC, INC. have received high volume calls about lightning stroking HVAC units.

A lightning strike can cause serious damage to your HVAC system even if everything looks fine from the outside. Before turning the system back on, take these steps:

🚨1. Turn Off Your HVAC System!
If you suspect your system was affected, turn it off at the thermostat and disconnect power at the breaker if it is safe to do so.

👀 2. Look for Warning Signs
Check for unusual smells, smoke, scorch marks, tripped breakers, or strange noises.

😵‍💫DO NOT TOUCH DAMAGED ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS!! 💀

🔌 3. Don’t Keep Resetting the Breaker
If the breaker trips again, leave it off. Repeatedly resetting it could make the problem worse.

Lightning can damage control boards, capacitors, motors, compressors, thermostats, and other electrical components that may not show visible damage.

🏠 5. Contact Your Homeowners Insurance
If there is significant damage, take photos and contact your insurance company to ask about coverage for electrical or HVAC damage caused by lightning.

⚡ 6. Consider Surge Protection.
These protectors manage voltage spikes that exceed the normal operating threshold, channeling the destructive energy safely to the ground wire.
